AN: Definitely not proud of myself on this one. Oh well. Written for week three of the Percy Jackson Ship weeks: Gruniper.
" June, " bleated Grover nervously. " is this poison ivy? "
Juniper looked over to the thing Grover was holding between two fingers. " Obviously. You can tell by the three leaves. I can't believe you didn't recognize it. You call yourself a satyr. " she said, then clucked her tongue. She looked over at Grover, who was chewing his tongue like he did when he was nervous.
" What happened? " asked Juniper.
" I uh, fell into a like bush of it. " he answered.
Juniper gave him the side eye. " Great job. What areas were exposed to it? "
" My arms, my face, parts of my stomach and back, " said Grover.
Juniper sighed. " Where was the patch?"
Grover waves his hand around in no particular direction. Juniper sighs.
Grover lays in the grass of a field, groaning. Juniper kneels over him, blotting the rash and blisters with a cool rag. The rash had spread all over his upper body. He was bare from the waist up, and though he was no model with washboard abs and was currently covered in pinkish blisters and rashes, he still looked good to Juniper. His bout of poison ivy was one of the worst Juniper had ever seen. The rash spread from his chest, to his neck and face, and to his back.
" Good gods Grover, I swear you have the worst luck when it comes to getting sick, " said Juniper.
" Tell me about it. " Grover groaned.
Juniper continued to blot him and noticed that his skin was turning red in places that weren't exposed to the rash. Uh oh. Sunburn. Juniper nearly snorted. Only Grover could get poison ivy and sunburn within 24 hours.
" Grover... I think you're getting sunburn. " she told him.
" What? I never get sunburn. " he answered.
" Well, you do now, " she said.
" Damn. I got a two for one, " he says.
Juniper went to go get some more supplies.
When Juniper got back, she found Grover had company. Mrs O'Leary had situated herself next to Grover. Juniper groaned. That dog scared her. She approached it cautiously.
" Hi... Dog. Can you move? I need to help Grover. " Juniper coaxed.
Mrs O'Leary moved to the side, revealing a crying Grover. Something had happened to him since Juniper had left. Something gross. His whole body was bright red, covered in nearly bleeding blisters and looked almost rug burned. The hairs that coated his legs were matted down and looked wet.
" What the heck! " shrieked Juniper. A startled Mrs O'Leary shadow traveled elsewhere.
" Mrs O'Leary licked me! Her tongue is like sandpaper. " Grover cried.
The more Juniper looked at him, the worse he looked. " This looks serious. I should go get someone. "
" No, no, I'll be fine, I just need a minute. " he assured her.
" I don't know. I'll be back, don't go anywhere. " Juniper left.
Juniper dunked the rag in the solution. She lightly pressed it on one of the blisters on Grover's chest. Grover howled in pain, writhing. Juniper tried it again and the same results ensued. A tear leaked out of one of his eyes. Juniper leaned down and kissed him. When they broke away, he relaxed. Juniper tried again. He allowed her to continue without moving, but squeezed her hand with every dab.
" Juniper, thank you for taking care of me even though I'm so gross. " Grover said. " I'm so lucky to have you. "
" You'll always have me, in sickness and in health, and whether you like it or not, " she replied smoothly, laughing.
" You know I'll always want you, even when you're being mean and sarcastic, right? " asked Grover.
Juniper laughed and kissed him again. " Right. "
