A/N: Yay for more Divergent fics! I think there should be way more, seeing as this is such an amazing book!

Disclaimer: Yea right. It belongs to Veronica Roth, not me.

Welcome to Dauntless

I've seen that face before. At least I think I have. As the face connected to the hand in my hand comes clearly into view, I'm almost sure I have. She is unprepared when coming off the net, and almost falls to the floor, but my reflexes are too quick to warrant it. I pull her up swiftly by her arms, but then quickly release her, not wanting her to get the wrong idea.

"Thank you," she says in her soft voice; definitely not the voice of a Dauntless. I'm sure that'll change over the next few weeks.

"Can't believe it." Lauren confirms my suspicion that I have seen this girl before with the next words out of her mouth. "A Stiff, the first to jump? Unheard of." Aaahh, so that's where I've seen her before. Back in the dear old Abnegation. I can't place a name with the face, but her interesting features have definitely been registered in my brain before. I wouldn't forget a face like that.

This girl looks slightly offended at Lauren's words, so I quickly jump in with my own remark. "There's a reason why she left them, Lauren." Yea, I can think of several. I turn to the new addition to Dauntless, finally asking the question that might place somewhat more of a memory to this girl from my mind. "What's your name?"

"Um…" She looks like it's the most confusing question anyone could have asked her. I prod her to answer the question.

"Think about it," I say, the thought occurring to me that maybe her Abnegation parents gave her a modest name that just wouldn't fit her new Dauntless life. I know the feeling. Tobias isn't a very rough name. Four suits my new Dauntless life much better. I begin to smile at her hesitation. "You don't get to pick again."

I see the indecision in her eyes begin to fade away as she firmly says, "Tris." My brain immediately begins scanning my memories from Abnegation for any name that could have been related to Tris. But I have repressed all those memories so much, it's hard to remember much. I give up quickly, deciding I probably never knew her name in the first place. Anyway, why am I getting so hung up on this one girl? Lauren's voice shakes me from my musings anyway.

"Tris. Make the announcement, Four."

I twist my head over my shoulder and shout to the rowdy Dauntless below, "First jumper- Tris!"

A second body hits the net along with a scream and Lauren scrambles to help her out. The Dauntless who had been cheering on Tris begin to chuckle at the other new Dauntless. I place my hand on Tris' back, not really knowing what I'm doing. I suppose I'm trying to comfort her. She's in for a grueling few weeks, and Dauntless is nothing like her calm, Abnegation home. I look down at her.

"Welcome to Dauntless."

Have fun, Tris.
