And another tear rolled down her cheek, tracing its way idly down the soft, pale skin. She made no move to wipe it off.

"I ... look, I can't do this." She sat down on the bed, her face buried in her hands. I sat beside her and put my arm around her shoulder; so powerful in comparison to her weak, human body. I wanted her to stay that way, human and warm, not a cold, sparkling monster. I knew it would be hell if she changed, but she was so goddamn determined.

I smoothed her hair out of her face. Her eyes were swollen and red from crying. I knew she hated to cry.

"Bella," I whispered, my face inches from hers. I wanted her to look at me, just look, but she stared down at her hands. "Bella, I love you."

"I know." She said, swallowed hard. "I know."

I smiled, brushed my fingers gently on her jaw line, bending to kiss her, but she moved away.

"No, I can't. I love him too. I can't make this decision. I love you." Contrary to what she was saying, she leaned in, like a flower drawn toward light. She needed me as much –no, more than- I needed her. I pulled her in close, her head resting on my chest.

"Stay with me."I kissed the top of her head.

"I can't do this to him." She whispered, her voice muffled by my sweater. "Not again."

Yes, it's a new one. Tell me if you like it. I might not continue it, but practice is always useful. And yes, it's supposed to be short. It's a prologue. :D I hope to see your reviews crowding my inbox. Ciao, lovelies.
