Summary: It's Emily's 15th birthday! BUT...
Emily
"Goodbye Emily. I'll miss you!" Kalli said giving me a hug.
"I miss you too Kalli…." I said with a sigh. I walked into the common room. I've been thinking about how much I have lost recently. A normal life, friends, dating, everything. Even my family….
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!" My friends shouted.
"Thanks guys." I said with a sigh.
My birthday is just reminding me of everything I missed.
"Em, what's wrong?" They asked me.
"Nothing, it's nothing…." I said.
"Emily….." Jayden said with a sigh.
"I-I…..it's nothing." I said.
"Emily, please tell me…." Jayden pleaded.
"Come on Em, please, for us?" Mike said.
"Em, if you tell us, we can make it better." Kevin promised.
"You can't reverse time. You can't give me what I missed out on….." I thought.
"Please Em. Will you tell us?" Mia begged.
"Fine, you win….It's ummm….." I looked around.
"That picture. It's just really sad looking." I said pointing at a picture.
"Emily, that picture is of all of us." Jayden said with a laugh.
"Oh…." I said.
I then picked up my attitude.
"Well, let's have some cake!" I said happily.
Through out the night I started to notice how much I did have, and that I should be thankful.
I have 5 great friends. I have a mentor figure in my life. I have a roof over my head and food. I have family back home. I have the opportunity to save the world. I have the opportunity to give millions of children a life. If we weren't here, the nighlok would take over…...and they would die….
We are all living. We have to be thankful.
We're living and breathing. We're fed and clothed. We're taken care of.
In a way, we won.
I am happy to be where I am now. This night, was something I needed.
They didn't help me directly, but they helped me indirectly. I guess that's the good thing about friends.
So, this was inspired by one of the kids I teach at my school (Im in a voc-tech school, and I take Early Ed and we get to teach preschoolers.) and one of the kids have a great spirit! She is thankful for everything she has. I thought that would be something to share with you. She is thankful for everything she has and gets. She absolutely amazes me. She always says thank you and your welcome, she always takes a certain amount of crackers and offers them to me or her friends because "Other people may be hungry too!" so she just amazes me…..
I will not be here till Wednesday because I will be in Disney for my birthday. If you see me in Disney, wearing a button in Magic Kingdom on Friday, do not be shy to approach me, I would love to speak with you! :P
And always be thankful for what you have, children all over the world, and adults even, may not have it. Always be thankful!
But yeah, I'll be gone from now to Wednesday.
