Many husbands and wives quarreled as their marriage went on. Some were just small disagreements, some were huge arguments. But Anakin Skywalker's marriage with Padmé Amidala went differently, because they were simply grateful to be together.

Some partners would quarrel for hours about things that needed to be done, how they needed to be done, or why they needed to be done. Padmé was just grateful to see Anakin when he'd brought home dinner after a long battle on a distant planet. They loved each other, no one could doubt that. Though all couples argued, Padmé and Anakin usually argued about the missions they were to be on, and it was usually because Anakin was overprotective of his beloved wife.

Usually, two people who were married would have children. Anakin and Padmé never talked too much about children, but they both knew that they'd love to have them. Anakin would see younglings around the temple and think about what he would do if he had children of his own. But him and Padmé were never really able to discuss them.

Their marriage stayed fairly strong throughout the Clone Wars, a few people occasionally coming in between them for a while, but they'd always resolve their differences. It was when Anakin was back from the Outer Rim Sieges after rescuing the Chancellor that both of them felt that their marriage would change for the better, and that was because Padmé was pregnant.

It was sad, mostly because once people found out they were married that they would have to give up their careers, but both Anakin and Padmé were willing to do so, if that was what it took to raise a precious child of their own. They were both extremely excited to have a child, and made sure that the baby's gender was a surprise, but that didn't stop them from guessing. Anakin was convinced the baby was a girl, while Padmé's motherly intuition said it was a boy. Despite a few disagreements about the Republic itself, its corruption, and promises that Padmé's safety would be ensured, Anakin and Padmé's relationship stayed strong. They both loved each other, and no one could doubt that.

It is entirely normal for husbands and wives to have arguments during their long relationships. Entirely normal.

When they had their first true argument, it was about lies, deception, and what changes and arrangements they wanted to make for their marriage and the well-being of the baby. And it was the last time they ever spoke to each other.

His wife was treacherous, Vader could not deny that. He rarely allowed himself to think of her name anymore. But now that their first and last argument was long gone and they were long dead, and that Vader was married to the Order of the Sith and Sidious as well, Vader wished he had made it clear how much he loved his wife and unborn child.

Not loved, a clear and young voice from the past inside his head whispered.

Loves.
