Gentle fingers woke him as they brushed behind his ear and wandered slowly down to his chin and back again. The Doctor didn't dare open his eyes in fear it would stop.
Used to waking up from nightmares with his face damp with tears that often fell during his fitful sleep, this feeling of peace those wonderful fingers had brought him was so unusual. And it made this moment all the more precious.
"You're awake, aren't you?"
"Mmm…" The Doctor replied lazily.
He smiled gratefully when Donna didn't take her hand away but tenderly rested another one on his chest.
