Chapter One: Introductions
Jess Green heard the squeaking sound of sneakers traveling across the court as she walked into the East High gymnasium. It was only her second time in the building, she had just transferred to the school a few weeks ago at the start of the winter semester, so she followed the sounds in order to get to the main part of the gym.
Jess was in the gym to interview the varsity basketball team. She had gotten onto the school newspaper based on the articles she had written at her old school, (and the fact that the normal sports writer had gotten Mono and was unable to continue his assignments.) The team had, apparently, lost most of it's players when they had graduated last year and Jess was supposed to write about how the team was going to make up for that.
When she pushed open the doors to the main part of the Gym, the first thing she saw was a stray basketball flying towards her head. Jess had never been all that coordinated, so she didn't duck in time to dodge it. She felt pain and pressure as her glasses were forcibly pressed into her face by the ball and fell down hard.
She heard someone yell, "Zara!" angrily. "Stop messing around!" Jess slowly opened her eyes and gingerly felt her face, glad that her glasses hadn't broken. Her head was throbbing.
"Oh, dude, I am SOO sorry!" a guy said in an apologetic voice as he rushed to help her up, "I totally didn't mean to hit you!"
I should hope not, Jess thought as he grabbed her arm and helped her to her feet. He was tall, and skinny with dark brown eyes and hair and he was wearing an East High basketball uniform.
"Are you okay?" he asked, obviously worried.
"I'm fine," Jess said, despite her massive headache.
"Good," he said, now smiling, "I'm Jimmie, by the way, but you can call me Rocketman"
"Rocketman?" Jess said, in disbelief as 'Rocketman' smiled goofily
"Zara! What did I tell you about not goofing around?!"
Jimmie looked down, "Sorry, Coach Bolton..."
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to!"
"Sorry" he said again to Jess
"Now, go back to your drills!" Coach Bolton told Jimmie. he immiediatly ran back to the court, where the rest of the team was watching what happened. "Now, I'm sorry, Miss..."
"Green." Jess said, "I'm Jessica Green, I'm with the school newspaper..." She bit her lip, hoping he remembered that she was supposed to interview them that day.
"Ah, Miss Green!" the coach exclaimed as he remembered her appointment. Jess let out a little sigh of relief. "We're just finishing some drills, so you can do your thing once we're done."
"Okay," Jess said. "Would you mind if I went to the Nurse's Office while you're doing that?"
"Not at all," Coach Bolton told her. "In fact, I'll send one of the boys with you"
"Thank you." Jess was glad to have someone to go with her, she probably would've gotten lost had she tried to find the nurse on her own.
"I'll go with her," a familiar voice said. Both Jess and Coach Bolton turned around to see that Jimmie was the volunteer.
A/N: I just wrote this as a spur of the moment kind of thing. I'm not sure if I'll continue.
PS: The whole "Hiatus"-thing is over(ish), but for the time being, I won't be continuing any of my stories.
