Don't own Digimon.
Prologue
Her back was towards him, and her head was bowed. But his eyes were focused on the wings coming from her back. They were folded neatly, the feathers all in place, not a single one ruffled or pointing in the wrong direction.
He'd never seen wings that large, or so vivid a crimson colour before. They seemed to sparkle when the sunlight hit them as she shifted slightly, shuffling them into posistion again.
"You're the only one who can save me."
"Huh?" Not very intelligent, maybe, but he was so surprised at the fact that she'd know he was standing behind her, that everything he'd been about to say was driven straight out of his head.
"You are the only one who can find me."
"W-what are you going on about?"
"Can you not understand me?" Her voice suddenly became stern. "You are the only one who will be able to find and save me. I trust I don't need to repeat it again."
"No, marm!"
"Marm?" A slight laugh drifted back to his ears, before she spoke again, her tone sounding lighter, almost carefree. "You humans are so strange!"
What could he say in reply to that?
"Look, don't think I'm being rude, or anything, but what are you?"
She raised her head, but didn't turn around. Still in the same light tone, she answered: "What do you think I am?"
"An impossiblity, if you even are one, anyway. How do I know that those wings of yours aren't just stuck on, and you're just pretending to be an…" his voice trailed off as she slowly turned around, fixing him with a keen eyed gaze.
Her lips twiched upwards for a moment. "Ah, you're not a believer, are you?"
"I only believe what I see with my own two eyes." He shrugged.
"So great a skeptisim…it may be a slight problem…" She walked towards him, her bare feet making no sound on the wooden floorboards. Reaching out a slim fingered hand, she ran it around his face, sending shudders down his spine at the soft, almost feathery light touch.
"You will have to start believing, my rescuer…" Even though she was still talking in that light tone, he could sense a heavier meaning behind her words this time.
"Otherwise, you will not be able to find me, and you must!"
"I'll try," he croaked out, for his throat had suddenly and unexplainably gone dry.
Her lips twiched upwards again, though this time, the fleeting smile seemed to be sadder than the one she had given him before.
Something was pressed into his hands, but before he could ask what it was, even if he'd see her again, she'd vanished.
A/N: Sorry it was so short. The next chapter will probably be up sometime in the following few days. Hope you enjoyed.
