The rain poured hard as the boy waited under a reinforced steel roof. He checked his phone for the time, and it was 4:30 PM, one hour after school had ended.

One hour after school ended, and no sign of his mother.

Matthew Moonstone was a typical 15 year old student at Selenia Academy. By typical, I meant he was the son of Mayor Artemis Moonstone of Selenia City, a city somewhere in the Pokémon world. Even though his mother loved him very much, he was feeling quite down today.

His teacher yelled at him today for something he did in class. How was he supposed to know that sending a paper airplane to catch the attention of his cousin's boyfriend would piss off Miss L-

The smell of ozone and a flash of light snapped him out of his thoughts. Thunder crackled loudly and the boy felt a few drops of rain fall onto his violet shirt. Looking up, he saw that the roof was fried by the lightning, causing the water to drip down the debris. He hung his head in sadness and held back a sniffle. This day was absolutely terrible.

Just as his shirt began to soak in the rain, he felt the merciless onslaught stop.

He looked upwards and saw a violet umbrella. Where did that come from?

"Are you okay, kid?" A sweet voice asked him from the left. He turned and saw a lady about 18 years of age at his side.

Her short hair was white with shades of dark violet mixed in. Her violet jacket had white outlines, and she wore a violet ankle-length skirt with white leggings underneath. She had yellow gloves and boots, and a gold headband with matching crescent earrings.

To Matthew, she looked like a goddess descended from above.

Then he remembered her inquiry and answered with a soft "no".

"What are you doing out here in the rain?" She asked.

"I'm waiting for my mother." He sobbed, and sat on a nearby bench. The girl followed him an gave him a pat on the back. "It's alright, kid. I'm here. My name is Lene. What's yours?"

"Matthew."

"That's an adoranle name for a cutie such as yourself!" She gushed, "May I give you a headpat?"

"A what?" Matthew cocked his head cutely and asked.

"Y'know, a pat on the head. You deserve one, in my opinion!"

"Why, Miss Lene?" The boy asked politely.

"Because you're adorable! And cute! And judging from the glasses, I bet you're pretty smart."

"Quite the opposite, actually." Matthew remarked, "In fact, my teacher yelled at me today."

"Aww, it's okay, kiddo!" Lene replied and ruffled his silver hair. "I'm here if you need me, okay? You can always talk to me."

"Thanks."

"Come here, little guy." She beckoned and pulled him into a hug. "Everything's gonna be alright, okay? I'll always be there when you need me the most."

"Thank you, but why help a boy like me?" He asked, "What did I do to earn your care?"

"Nothing, I just want to help." Lene answered, "Isn't that a good enough reason?"

"Actually, it isn't." Matthew murmured beneath her, still trapped by her embrace. "Thanks anyway."

"I'll have to go now." She suddenly said, "See you around, kid." And with that, she just disappeared in a flash of light, leaving Matthew alone with her umbrella.

Just then, he heard the honk of a car horn and saw his mother's car pull over. The window opened and he saw his mom, her auburn hair looking slightly frazzled. "Matthew! Thank Lunala you're safe. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, mom." Matthew replied.

"Whose umbrella is that?" His mother asked.

"A girl named Lene stopped by and shared her umbrella with me." He explained.

"Oh. Well, you better return it to her once you see her again, you got that?"

"Yes, mother." He responded, entering the car with the umbrella in tow, gripping it tightly for comfort even as he closed it.

"So," Artemis began, "Was she pretty?"

"Yea- wait, what?" Matthew asked, startled.

"Ooh, looks like my little man has a crush!" She teased.

"No, I don't!" He blushed, "All I'm saying is that she was very beautiful. She was kind and caring too."

"Sounds like the perfect girl for you, my little one!" His mother remarked, "But first things first, let's get you home."

"That sounds great."

Later that night, Matthew sat on his bed, his Vanillite plushie beside him as he prayed to the goddess Lunala, thanking the city's patron for Lene's presence earlier that day.

Little did he know that the goddess was also the woman he met earlier.

Nor was he aware of the fact that she was watching from the window, keeping an eye on him even as he laid down to sleep.

It rained again the next day, but not as hard this time. Besides, Matthew was prepared and brought Lene's umbrella with him.

And soon enough, Lene appeared beside him in a flash of light.

"How do you do that?" Matthew asked, "Are you psychic?"

"Yup! It's one of my many talents!" Lene replied cheerfully, "I can also cook and do some other pretty cool things."

"Like what?" The boy asked. The lady responded by making some snowflakes appear out of thin air and fall onto his nose.

"Cool!" He remarked, amazed by her powers. "Can you teach me how to do that?"

"Well," Lene began. "First, you gotta tap into your internal energy reserves..."

That's all for now, folks! Tune in next time for some more romance! See y'all soon, and have fun reading! I hope this chapter was good enough. I kinda feel like I've lost my edge...

This is Vanillite the Dragonslayer, signing off.
