I'm Sorry Baby Brother

His body ached and throbbed. His legs felt as though they were made of lead. He completed his mission he was loyal to Konoha, almost. It was so close to being a success it pains him to think about it. If it had gone according to plan he could still be the great ninja people cut him out to be. He would even be a good ninja if his shield of indifference hadn't been shattered.

People said he was the prodigy Uchiha who completed all his missions without a hitch. But there was a hitch a very big hitch. His mission was to exterminate his clan, and he did…except one; the one person in his clan who he loved more than he even knew himself possible, his brother. He let his little brother live.

Witnessing the horrified expression when he beheld Itachi standing over the corpses of their parents he knew one thing was certain. Sasuke would hate him for the rest of his life. Sasuke would never look up to him ever again. Sasuke…would attempt to kill him many a times.

When Itachi saw his brother he realized he couldn't go through with killing him. Every memory of their lives together flashed through his head. He had always looked out for Sasuke; they grew up side by side. What about his promise to always be his older brother? All raced around polluting the very air he breathed. Why did this have to happen?

He looked up at the star-lit night like sparkling crystals dangling in thin strings of water streaming from the sky. The river below looked as if it was a dark granite floor reflecting the glistening stars above. For a moment Itachi had some peace but was jolted out of his daze at he sound of a Jonin squad approaching their house. No, it was only Sasuke's house now.

It was time to leave, time to go and meet up with his new teammate from Akatsuki. It was time to say good-bye…forever.

"Bye, Sasuke. Grow up strong." Ready to leave he turned back one last time and murmured a sincere:

"I'm sorry."
