Prompt : Lost, Jack, trying to save lives

Author's Note : This is my first attempt at writing in the Lost Fandom.

Stepping In

It starts as a simple matter of training, of someone needing to do something. It doesn't matter who or what but he can't help but react. Years of decision making, of being trained to assess and act and of knowing just how fragile yet truly resilient the human body can be.

He knows that if he acts, he can save people. He's not under any illusions that it would be everyone or even that saving some of them would even be a good thing. Keeping someone alive isn't always the same as saving them, particularly in a situation like this. He might just be prolonging the time they are alive to suffer through pain because there's no way of knowing how long it will be before someone arrives to rescue them.

In the meantime though he does what he can, he triages and acts, rallying others to find him what he needs or the closest they can manage and some he trusts to help him, to follow his direction and hold someone still or help clean away the blood while he works. Once he's checked some minor injuries to make sure they are hiding nothing more serious, he even leaves them to be cleaned and wrapped tightly by others who seem to know what they are doing. He knows he'll check again later, but for now he has to keep his focus and his energy in the right direction and that means seeing as many as he can as quickly as he can. Time and resources management.

Jack took an oath that meant he dedicated his life to saving other people's lives. They may not know where they are or when help is coming. They may have next to nothing with which to work but none of that will allow Jack to stop trying to save lives, trying to get as many people through this as he can.

Because that is who Jack is, what Jack does.
