Kurapika's scarlet eyes scared him. Fact. He was unsure why but he felt very much afraid of them. The scarlet colour the eyes glow is considered a beautiful thing; one of the most beautiful colours in the world. However, Kurapika despised his eyes in a way. It was because of their eyes that his family and friends, the Kurta, had gotten killed. The Phantom Troupe were heinous killers so they were more than capable of killing his clan with or without a reason, but the scarlet eyes himself and his clan possessed are what lured the troupe towards his old home. He knew this too well. So, he had a slight hatred towards his eyes.

Kurapika thought this as he stared at the mirror in front of him, looking directly at his eyes. The thought of his fallen brethren made his eyes flash scarlet for a meer moment before his eyes quickly returned brown. Another thing that annoyed him about his eyes was that if he ever felt even slightly emotionally agitated, they would show his emotions even against his will. This put him at a huge disadvantage when someone tried to anger him and he tried to hide it.

A third thing he hated about his eyes was the colour. People say the colour of his eyes were beautiful. He disagreed. Kurapika thought his scarlet eyes made him look demonic. Especially when anger was what made his eyes the red colour.

Finally, he hated them for how they almost tripled his emotion's intensity. The second his eyes turned red, Kurapika could feel himself fall into a state which he had very little control over. If he felt angry, this state would make his anger rise to the point where he would be more than happy to kill. If he felt scared, this state could make him so frightened he could run from his fear like a coward.

Scarlet eyes... Kurapika really hated them. However, there was one fact about them which made him so determined to find his lost brethren's eyes that it was almost frightening. It was the simple fact that scarlet eyes were the mark of the Kurta clan. His family. His friends. No matter how much he despised them, his scarlet eyes were all he had left of the people he loved.

That is why Kurapika felt determined to find all the scarlet eyes the Phantom Troupe had gouged out of his family and friends' skulls. Scarlet eyes were all he had left of the Kurta.

He hated them, but if Kurapika was to lose his scarlet eyes he wouldn't know what to do.
