The Dreamer
He dreamed just one dream in his time,
That one day the world would be free.
He believed oppression was crime,
And so he made this decree.
"Students, workers, everyone,
Listen to what I say!
There's lots of work to be done,
And soon will come the day!
The day of salvation is closing in,
And soon we will have our prize!
Freedom is what we want my friends,
And we'll get it when the barricades rise!"
They pledged themselves there on the street,
To fight for a poor persons right.
They fought through smoke and they fought through heat,
And the battle lasted 'til night.
The men sat saying "drink with me,"
As they all said their goodbyes.
Knowing they would die for their country,
When a pale tint lights the skies.
Then dawn came on the barricade,
As they all then rose to fight.
Some died and on the ground they laid,
Dying for what is right.
The dreamer then went to the barricade's crest
And waved the red flag high.
He then felt a bullet fly into his breast,
And he fell, knowing he would die.
And there he laid, his shirt stained crimson,
His heart coming to a stop.
He then closed his eyes and his life was done,
As the rainwater began to drop.
He dreamed just one dream in his time,
That one day the world would be free.
Now he lays in the dust and grime,
And darkness is all he'll see.
