Niles knocked on the door to David's room.

"Come in dad," David said.

Niles came in and sat down on the bed.

"Hey Buddy," Niles said, "Look we need to talk. Mom told me that you went out to Jarred's house without letting her know."

"I'm sorry," David said, "Jarred invited me over and I wanted to play on his trampoline so bad that I didn't think to tell mom."

"I understand it was an honest mistake," Niles said, "But you have to understand that you're only 7 years old. Mom was very worried."

"I'm in trouble aren't I," David asked

"No," Niles said, "You made a mistake. You didn't do it intentionally to make mom worry. I know that you didn't mean to do that. But I want to explain to you why that wasn't a good thing to do."

"Okay," David said.

"David, when I was your age I went to my friends house without letting my parents know. As I was going to my house I fell and I broke my arm. My parents weren't home at the time. My mother was in her home office with a client. My dad was at my brother was at a school play. When I was found it took me a long time to get my arm healed. And there are a lot of other things that can happen to you when you go out without letting other people knowing where you are."

"Okay dad," David said, "I promise I will never go out without telling you guys again."

"Good boy," Niles said, "Dinner is in a half hour. Mom made hot dogs."

"Did she make fries," David asked.

"I think she did. Now go wash up and get ready."

David went to the bathroom to wash up. Niles smiled. His son was a handful but he was very blessed to have him.
