Author: I decided to re-write the first chapter of this story. I've been watching the subbed episodes so it felt a little strange working with the character's dubbed names. Hope noby minds...

It was a dark day. The sky was coated in clouds and rain fell at a steady pace making the mood depressing and somber. Even so, a duel was taking place in the middle of the forest between a shadow and none other than Judai Yuki. Johan Andersen lay against the trunk of a tree, semi-conscious. He had been told by Jim who was informed by Hassleberry that Jaden had returned from Dark World and had come to visit him. Now he lay there, his vision blurring off and on, watching Jaden duel for both of their lives.

It was Judai's turn, and he planned on ending this. Drawing a card, he said, "I use the spell card, Fusion, to combine Burst Lady with Featherman to form Flame Wingman! And since you have no monsters on the field, he gets to attack you directly! Go, Wingman!"

Flame Wingman appeared in front of the shadow and blasted flames directly at it as it called one finally move, "I activate my spell card, Darkness Union!"

Judai's eyes widened. He'd never heard of that card before. Neither had Johan. Judai took a step back, "Darkness Union?! What does that do?!"

The shadow laughed cruelly, "Judai... This card is your end... I will be destroyed, but in return Darkness Union will affect you and infect you with darkness!"

"What?!" Judai exclaimed, but the shadow dispersed and Flame Wingman returned to his spot on the field. The spell card remained on the shadow's side of the field. It activated, sending a column of darkness directly at him. As the wave of dark energy shot through his body he was thrown backwards by it and hit the ground with a sickening crack. He was out cold. At the same time, only witnessed by Judai and Johan, the darkness pierced Yubel and ejected her from Judai's soul, throwing her into the air. The wave was such a sudden shock to her she hadn't time to react. Soon she lost consciousness and dissipated, fading away.

Johan only barely caught the spectacle. He watched it with blurred vision and tried desperately to move, to do something to stop it, but his body refused to budge. As Judai hit the ground, Johan's vision slipped away, and he was engulfed by blackness.

…A Few Hours Later.

Sho and Kenzan walked through the woods, searching for Judai and Johan. The two were supposed to meet them at the Slifer Dorm earlier, but when they arrived they found the door had been forced open and was hanging from its remaining hinges with nobody to be found. Immediately they assumed something had happened and began their search. They now walked into the area where Judai had dueled the shadow and saw him lying on the ground, unconscious.

"Aniki!" Syrus shouted, his voice filled with worry and fear for his friend.

Kenzan looked from Judai to the other limp form that was laying against a tree and said, "Look! That looks like Johan over there!"

Sho turned to look in the direction Kenzan was staring, "Johan..?"

Johan stirred slightly and lifted his head enough to look at them. He tried to speak, but the first time all that came out was a choking sound. The second time he managed to breathlessly choke out, "J-Judai..."

Again Johan felling into black. The action had been too much for him and his head sagged once more, alarming his two friends. Sho stared at Johan, wide-eyed, then dropped to his knees next to Judai.

Small tears began to fall from his eyes as he shouted, "H-He's barely breathing! We need to get them to the infirmary!"
