Where Will You Take Me?
A black and gold motorcycle pulled up to the front of the busy neighborhood café. Its rider promptly silenced the engine and secured the runner before turning around to scan the café's outside seating. There was only one occupied table that caught his eye. The amazing woman he had promised to meet was sitting there quietly. No doubt she had seen him arrive but she pretended not to notice him sneak up behind her. He covered her eyes playfully and whispered in her ear, "I want to take you someplace beautiful, so let's order out!"
The sun reflected off the runner as it drifted down the highway. Its two passengers enjoyed the view of the endless blue sky and the smell of the salty air that whipped by their faces. Time flew by as the man guided the runner off the highway bridge and onto a quieter roadway.
Their ride ended at the edge of a small neighborhood. There, her lover pulled over and parked the runner against a curb. When she removed her helmet, she could smell the ocean close by but the water was nowhere to be seen. Close to where they parked the motorcycle stood a long stretch of 8ft solid fence. Confused, she looked toward her lover. A small smile was present on his face as he looked toward the fence. Then, he grabbed her hand gently and led her closer to it. After choosing a fence board with a small notch in the middle, he stretched out his other hand and gave the wood a slight push. Four consecutive fencing pieces gave way, creating an open doorway.
"Just a little farther!" he told her with a larger mischievous smile. They walked through a tight alley but she watched as their sidewalk path slowly turned into a sandy one. Finally, he led her through the alley's end. The houses and buildings ended abruptly to reveal a quiet white beach. There was not a sole in sight besides her lover. He squeezed her hand a little and led her down to the water. For a while, they walked along the water's edge; watching the tiniest waves lap at the shore. In front of them sat a small pier. One second later, that's where he was leading her to.
The two sat down and leaned against each other on the very edge of the pier, their bare legs were swinging in the air. Straight ahead of them was the monumental arch that sat among the city's highway bridges. They had passed by it on their way to the beach but it looked even more glorious from afar. The sun seemed to bounce off the arch and reflect across the water onto the couple.
Then, he took something out of his pocket. "Give me your hand," he told her. She face turned a light shade of crimson with nervousness but when she pulled her hand back, she found if full of bread crumbs. She was puzzled for a second until a double CAW, CAW, sounded from above her.
A black crow and a white seagull hit the water together, scooping up the bread crumbs that had just been thrown by the couple on the pier. The birds, although different, shared the same sky and the same crumbs. They even flew off together when there were no more bread crumbs to be had. The lovers watched from the pier, leaning ever closer together. Nothing could separate them. With only the birds as witnesses, the two shared a sweet embrace at the edge of the pier.
