Disclaimer: Still not mine.
Rated T for one word at the end.
A/N: Kay, so ... this episode totally rocked, IMHO! I loved everything about it, and I have so much to write! I just know I won't get much sleep tonight ;).
I wrote this first only because it came to me near the beginning of the episode.
'You' is, of course, Chris.
I really hope you enjoy!

Chris Diaz. Set after episode 9, 'Girlfriend of the Year'.
You want to make this work.
God, you want to make things work between the two of you so badly.
Wanting something doesn't make it magically happen … you're willing to go the distance, though. But you can't make this work if she doesn't want to. (And you can't make her want to, either, even though it would make this all that much easier.
At first, you could understand why she was angry. Reporting another cop to IA isn't 'no big deal'; it's not taken lightly by anyone. And she'd needed to be loyal to her brother. But you didn't report her brother to IA, you reported her brother's partner to IA. You rightfully reported her brother's partner.
And you'd never be able to live with yourself if you hadn't. (At the time it had been hard to see, but you know now that that's not the kind of cop you want to be. You want to be the kind of cop who does the right thing, just like you told her.
You're not going to be a pushover, as so many people have accused you of being; you're going to do whatever it takes to get justice.)
At the same time, you're not sure you can live with yourself knowing that you pushed her away … so it's all moot, really. You're not sure you want to live without her.
She's aggressive, and rough around the edges. She often comes off as … well, a bitch. But she doesn't take no for an answer, not when her gut's telling her that there's something more to it. And she's determined. You respect that. You can see through her, though, sometimes; and you wish that she trusted you enough to open up and let her guard down.
It's a little strange, because the only other girl you've ever felt something like this for is Denise, and she and Gail are complete polar opposites in so many ways. (One similarity, though? Things didn't work out with Denise, and it sure looks like things might not work out with Gail; especially if she has anything to do about it.
Despite everything you do, you can't force her to listen to you. You can't force her to see it your way. You can't force her to go that extra mile and make things work. That's all up to her, in the end.)
You don't even understand it yourself, really, because you and she are just so different.
(Opposites attract, though, right?)
You're ready to go this distance … but it doesn't mean shit unless she's willing to go it with you.
