This is a songfic for the song Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks. Bones and the song Unanswered Prayers do not belong to me. I'm upset that Bones doesn't belong to me, but I don't know if I want to own Garth Brooks.

Brennan and Booth, who were just starting dating, were going to Parker's first football game. Booth ran into Rebecca.

Just the other night a hometown football gameMy wife and I ran into my old high school flameAnd as I introduced them the past came back to meAnd I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

The past was coming back to Booth. He remembered how he had wanted to marry Rebecca. He had wanted that more than anything.

She was the one that I'd wanted for all timesAnd each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mineAnd if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back thenI'd never ask for anything again

Sometimes Booth swears that God knows the future. How else would've Rebecca said no, just for Booth to find Brennan. Bones was the best thing he had ever had in his life.

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayersRemember when you're talkin' to the man upstairsThat just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't careSome of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Rebecca had changed a lot since he had last saw her. They had nothing to do with each other for about two years now. Booth remembered how he'd thought that Rebecca was perfect. Now Booth couldn't remember much of the time he'd spent with Rebecca.

She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreamsAnd I could tell that time had changed meIn her eyes too it seemedWe tried to talk about the old daysThere wasn't much we could recallI guess the Lord knows what he's doing after all

After Rebecca walked away, Booth looked at Brennan and thanked God that he had her. God had led Booth to Rebecca for Parker, and then Rebecca didn't marry him because it was Brennan he was supposed to be with. And as she walked away and I looked at my wifeAnd then and there I thanked the good LordFor the gifts in my life

Booth now knew why his mother had said never ask for things in your prayers. God had a plan, and it would work out one way or another. If you didn't get what you wanted from a prayer, it didn't mean that God didn't hear you, it meant that you weren't supposed to have that thing.

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayersRemember when you're talkin' to the man upstairsThat just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't careSome of God's greatest gifts are unansweredSome of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
