Dawn x Barry

He was running as fast as he possibly could, his heart about to burst in his chest and his legs about to fall off. But he couldn't stop running - there was absolutely no way he could miss this. She would never forgive him.

Lucas was definitely there already - he had his own ride - but a friend of his said that he would drive him in for free (but the limousine to ride off in was going to be his own problem) and didn't show up. And he was stupid enough to wait around, hoping he'd show up soon, and then he realized there were only ten minutes before it started. How was he supposed to get to the city in ten minutes on foot?

He could picture himself as a child, yelling at his friend that he was going to fine him one million for this, and he smirked for a moment at the thought, but then Barry remembered that he had places to go and things to do and he was not supposed to let himself get distracted.

Like lightning he swerved off the thin, idle street he lived on and onto the sidewalk by the highway and kept dashing, the only thought in his head being she's going to hate me she's going to hate me. He must have looked strange to everyone driving by as he ran by, panting heavily as he ran in uncoordinated leaps and gallops, wearing most of a suit, but with the jacket and his belt clutched in his fist as he ran and his shirt untucked and his tie waving around behind him and his vest unbuttoned and his whole outfit a disheveled mess and That doesn't matter right now! Hurry up!

He was in such a panic he almost ran right by the church, but quickly stopped on his heel and ran across the street without even checking the lights and ignoring the cars that skidded to a stop inches away from him and honked angrily. He managed to let out a quick, insincere shout of "sorry!" before he ran into the church and down the hall and -

He stopped in the doorway, leaning against the door frame and trying to catch his breath. He looked up and saw her face, and almost horrified at his own discourtesy, fixed his outfit and put on his jacket. And she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, her long hair done up in curls and bows and flowers and her perfect white lacy dress resting on the floor, and she just radiated absolute gorgeousness but her normally pretty face was tear-stained and her normally bright eyes were sad, and her bridesmaid Cynthia was patting her shoulder and trying to comfort her...

"Dawn!" he shouted, starting to stand, and all at once all their friends and family and the gym leaders (who counted as friends, all things considered) and everyone in the seats alongside the aisle turned to face him, and she looked up and her eyes turned from a dull sadness to a mix of complete joy and absolute fury. "D-Dawn, I'm so sorry, my friend who was supposed to give me a ride here didn't show up and wouldn't pick up and I waited too long for him and I-" he froze, realizing that every pair of eyes was upon him and that he was interrupting how the ceremony was supposed to go, and-

"You are... I can't even pick words to describe just how beautiful you are right now."

And any fury in her eyes just disappeared and was replaced with an unbelievable happiness and a few tears as he walked up the aisle and the priest began to recite from his book...

"You owe me big for this," she told him just before the priest finished.

"O-owe you? What do I-"

"You were late!" she said, "I'm fining you one million!"

And without anything else to say, he kissed her before the priest could even get out the words "you may kiss the bride" and with a smile as bright as the sun she took his hand and they ran into the long white limousine waiting just outside the church, and they laughed and smiled just like they did when they were children.
