Sudden Five Year Old Daughter
Daisuke had sometimes thought about marrying and settling down. But he'd never thought about having children. They would be too distracting, all wide-eyed and high-pitched and demanding attention.
But then he suddenly had a daughter, and she was beyond that stage and he was at a loss at what to expect with her. His work-mates were no help either. They had children younger than the one suddenly under his care. They could only laugh and joke and call him sempai.
If only she had been a baby, squirming and wailing and being as distracting and annoying he'd expected children to be. Because she was still distracting, but the sort that would wait on the steps in preschool until he came for her, hours after everyone else. She was the sort that wouldn't ask for anything until he coaxed the question out of her, instead of babies who would wail the moment a desire struck them.
She was too grown up, for a child. But she was still a child and that baffled Daisuke all the more in his inexperience.
