Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

Uncertain

Out of everyone in the Konoha 12, Tenten feared for her future the most.

After all, she didn't have the support system most of the others did. In fact, besides the traitor Uchiha Sasuke, she was the only one who didn't have any sort of family unit to fall back on when being a shinobi became a little too much for her.

Lee had Gai; Hinata and Neji belonged to a clan that traced its roots back to the founding of Konoha itself; Shino and Kiba were born into large clans where family bonds and loyalty were bred into them from their first breaths; Naruto and Sakura clung together with a ferocity that none could believe—a ferocity that encompassed and was shared by Tsunade-sama and Jiraiya-sama, who saw the two as the children they never had; and the Ino-Shika-Chou Trio had been literally conceived to support and love each other.

She wasn't a genius. Not one of hard work, not one of jutsu or strategy or booksmarts. She wasn't unpredictable to the point of accidental brilliance.

Tenten didn't have a Kekkei Genkai. She didn't have family jutsu to pass down. Nor did she have the honor of being a Sannin's apprentice—a distinction that carried with it an automatic future in the heart of Konoha's shinobi ranks. She lacked the drive to push so far beyond the limits of her body that she achieved the impossible as Lee did on a daily basis.

Everyone knew that one day, Kiba and Shino will retire to become the Heads of their respective Clans. Hinata and Neji will eventually succumb to the stress of the Byakugan and go blind—like many of the Hyuuga's top shinobi did. Sakura will leave active shinobi work for a life at the Hospital, while Ino takes over her family's flower shop. Chouji will settle down and have a family like his father before him. Shikamaru will get stuck behind a desk. Naruto will fulfill his promise and become Hokage. And Lee will still be running around yelling about youth and find his own dead-last to mentor.

Tenten is just an above-average kunoichi placed within a group of extraordinarily talented ninja and she knows it.

So when her vision blurs during training and she misses the dead center of her target by half a centimeter, she worries.

She worries because she can't see her future; she is uncertain and afraid.

And she doesn't know what to do next.

A/N:

I wrote this because—although there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of fanfics where Tenten is paired with Neji—it often feels like she's left out of the collective minds/hearts of people. We don't know a lot about her backstory (unlike a lot of the Konoha 12) and we don't really get a lot of insight into how she is as a person. Besides the fact that she's a kick-ass weapons-specialist who is kinda close to her team. But nowhere near the same level of closeness as Sakura, Hinata, and Ino share with their boys.
