After the tragic death of the elf that saved their lives, Dobby, everyone was depressed. Luna and Dean sat on the cliff, watching the waves crashing on the surface of the sand.
"Your speech was beautiful. I hope Harry's okay," Dean said, looking admiringly at Luna.
"Thank you, Dean! Harry's quite overcome with emotion, but he'll be okay. Ron and Hermione are comforting him. What a narrow escape we had today!" Luna exclaimed.
"Hmm. Thanks to Dobby," Dean sighed.
"I just miss my Daddy. I haven't seen him for months!" said Luna, and to Dean's slight embarrassment, her eyes began to water. But he knew that Luna needed comforting.
Dean patted Luna's shoulder. This made Luna break down and she began to cry in earnest, her head on Dean's shoulder.
"Shhh… it will be okay…" said Dean with his hand forming circles on her back.
They were quiet for a few minutes, embracing each other. Luna felt safe in Dean's arms and showed no sign of breaking apart. But suddenly, she stood up reluctantly. Dean stood up too.
"Thank you, Dean. I needed that." She smiled, and hugged Dean.
"Anytime. I'll always be there for you." Dean whispered in Luna's ears.
And they broke apart. They stared at each other for a few seconds.
And then, without warning, without thinking, without caring about anything else in the whole wide world, their lips met.
It was bliss.
After a few moments, they broke apart from the kiss, gasping and panting, and blushing furiously.
"Goodnight, Dean." Luna said, kissing him on the cheek. Then she went upstairs.
Dean smiled to himself. It had been a pretty eventful night.
