All I Wanted Was You

This moment, this was it. Everything was over with. The house was going to burn down until there was nothing but ash, and this woman right in front of him, was going down with it...somehow this was all bittersweet. But why is Barnabas feeling nothing bitter? And hurt? There was a hole forming in his heart, he could feel it as tears ran down Angelique's beautifully broken face.

"No... I love you, Barnabas..." Suddenly, she reached into her chest and pulled out her purple and black beating heart, and handed it to Barnabas.

"All I ever wanted...was you, Barnabas. Nothing less, nothing more..." She said longingly, as she kept the heart out to Barnabas. He couldn't help the tears forming in his eyes, as he saw Angelique slowly die.

He didn't think that this is what he would have been feeling right now. Barnabas had thought he'd be feeling accomplished, relieved...and...happy. Happy that this witch who killed his parents, Josette, and cursed his family would finally die and burn in hell where she belonged. But, he had been feeling the opposite.

Barnabas felt an urge to just take her in his arms and to save her, but...it was too late. After everything, it seemed impossible. There was still things tearing them apart. What she did to his current family, the fact that she burnt down his business, and the fact that he loved Victoria.

"Angelique..." He stared at the heart for a moment as it started slowing down in rhythm then looked at her again. "We can never be together...you cannot love..." Barnabas gathered himself. "And you'll never know how much that pains me that you can't. Because, all I wanted was you." He finally choked out as the heart was on it's final beats.

Tears streamed down Angelique's face, feeling weaker by the second. "Take it...I'll always love you Barnabas..." One more time, she held her heart out closer to Barnabas, as it finally stopped beating, shattering into pieces- Angelique's body falling limp.

Barnabas felt his heart break at that instant too. He held in his tears. Knowing that his family and Victoria would be safe was satisfying...but as he stared at Angelique's lifeless body, he felt empty inside. As she was right now. Looking at her he remembered, surprisingly, all the beautiful memories they had. As children, teens, adults. Maybe he did break her heart. Maybe he didn't love her as he should have. Maybe he was the reason she turned cold.

He ran the back of his hand slowly across her cheek as her skin collapsed in. "Farewell, my love..." Barnabas whispered under his breath- gazing at her for a moment more before getting up hastily to go rescue Victoria from the fate of Josette's.
