Tharja was odd.
Rather, she was creepy.
Despite her beauty and flawless curves, the girl was awkward, arms often laden with thick tomes and rolls of parchment, filled with hexes and curses. Her eyes, black as pitch, were reminiscent of the dark magic she wielded, and her skin was alabaster, as if she was inhuman or had no blood. Even with her sharp wit to redeem her, her tongue often got the best of her, morphing what could be pleasant small talk into a thousand year curse upon generations of strangers or a hex to turn one's hair green.
Yet Nowi didn't mind.
In fact, Nowi actually liked it.
Really liked it.
She found Tharja's personality curious. Endearing, one might say even. The dark mage's personality was so different from the rest of The Shepherds, so radically peculiar, that the thousand year old dragon couldn't help but be interested.
So as she came across Tharja one day, wandering the halls of Castle Ylisstol, she decided to take a chance to chat, heart in her throat.
"Tharja!" Nowi called, waving her arms.
"Ah, Nowi," Tharja hissed, a slow smile creeping across her lips as she looked over her shoulders. She gripped a bundle of scrolls closer to her ample chest, dark nails digging into the paper. "How are you?" Tharja sped up, hurrying towards her quarters.
Nowi quickly caught up, bare feet smacking on the ground as Tharja opened the door to her private library, hip smacking against the thick wood. Nowi dashing in before her, obstructing her path.
"Tharja," she said, voice suddenly less childish. "I'd like to go out on a date. Lissa told me about-"
"Nowi, I…" Tharja exhaled, bangs flopping into her eyes. She shifted, setting her scrolls down onto a table.
"Tharja, I-"
"Nowi, you know I'm not…" she waved a hand limply before reaching for a bottle of ink. She plucked a brush up and exhaled, shoulders hunching higher.
Nowi smiled sweetly, tucking a lock of hair behind a pointed ear. "Please?" Nowi giggled, twirling around, hand on Tharja's wrist. She tugged hard and Tharja stumbled forward, free arm clutching the scrolls hard.
"I… Are you sure you want to be seen with me?" she managed, eyes cast down.
Nowi nodded eagerly, eyes shining brightly. "Of course! Why wouldn't I want to be seen with you?"
"Yes, I'm fairly sure," Tharja answered, blinking slowly. "I'm… queer to most." She chuckled darkly, biting her lip nervously.
"Well, but that's alright. I like that about you. It's what makes you different. Your creepy is really cute!" Nowi punctuated her sentence with a huge smile, arms reaching out to touch Tharja.
Tharja felt her cheeks warm, filling with unusual color. She turned quickly, jerking away and bit her lip hard. Nowi's eyes began to sting and she sniffled.
Tharja snatched at a piece of paper, and with a quick hand, scrawled a series of letters, licked the top, stuck it onto Nowi's head, centered between her bangs. "H-Here!"
The manakete squealed, stumbling backwards. "What was-"
Tharja turned and ran, lips clenched tight as she dashed out of the library. Slowly, Nowi peeled the paper from her face.
I suppose I can go out. –Tharja
Nowi felt her heart leap and she took off after Tharja, calling her name.
