A/N I've had this laying about for a while... Guess I should post it.

The Voices In My Head

"This is all your fault, you know."

"My fault?"

"Yes, I had just met her.. you on the other hand.."

"It's entirely your fault, if you hadn't treated her like a child-"

"You acted too much like a child. Didn't make it important enough, because of you-"

"Pah! You're just too embarrassed to admit that you ran away from every opportunity presented to you."

"Me? Run away? You're the one who ran off! Which makes this entirely, your fault. If you hadn't dropped her off the moment the Time Lords sent out a message- obviously faulty by the way.."

"Oh? And how exactly would Sarah have fared on Gallifrey? I was nearly killed, what do you think would have happened to her?"

There was a moment of quiet which the Doctor took to rub at his temples. Honestly, if he had to argue with himself, couldn't he do it without breaking down into a schizophrenic?

If the both of you would just..

"Oh quiet, what are you doing about this? Absolutely nothing. Probably off for another cricket match. Three systems could burn to cinder and you wouldn't notice because you're too busy pitching-'"

I'm taking her to a show, not a cricket match. And nothing bad ever happened while you sat and worked on Bessie?

Ah. Another moment of silence. The companion at his side gave him a funny look from the corner of her eye when he smiled.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Mm? Oh nothing."

"You smiled." Her inflection implied it was a strange thing. To be fair, it was a rather strained smile.

"I'm happy, I find that to be a good reaction when one is happy. Preferable to alternatives really. One shouldn't frown when happy, for instance. It would be rather strange."

"And I'm the mad one."

"You're both mad."

Oh, forget this. Will you both just go back to where you belong and be quiet?

"Go back? My dear boy, you asked us here."

"Yes, rather rude to take back an invitation after the guests have arrived."

"Really Doctor, are you sure you're alright? You've got this.. funny look on your face."

"Perfectly fine, happy even!"

She gave him a look that told him his repetitiveness wasn't helping prove his point.

"Yes, lie to her. That always ends well."

"You'd know the most about that, wouldn't you?"

"Oh, shut up."

Why did I ask you two here again?

"I believe you were looking to gain some perspective.. and considering the way things are going, I'm going to say it still isn't my fault. It's yours now."

"I agree."

Oh yes, agree with one another now.

"Well it's also his fault, but it's yours too."

You know what? We all need to take equal blame for this. I'm going to end this argument, right now.

"Oh?"

"A little unlikely.."

Not giving himself one more minute to think, or doubt, or stall- the Doctor turned towards his companion, held her shoulders, and kissed her firmly on the lips.

That shut them up properly.

When he pulled back Sarah put a hand to her lips, surprised. "What was that for?" She asked, seeming a little dazed.

"Oh," the Doctor smiled, putting his hands into the pockets of his striped trousers. "Just ending an argument."

Her eyes flashed, "oh? You're about to have another on your hands if you don't explain."

"Gladly!" He offered his arm. "But first, the theater. We've arrived."
