It was morning. The tips of the sun stretched out across the horizon, tickling the darkness until its recession was almost as imminent as the sun itself. The pale orange glow transcended through the thin glass of the Titans' Tower. A few rooms deep, the emerald shape-shifter began to stir from slumber. The same questions echoed in his head as they had every morning for the past year and a half.
Why won't Raven ever laugh at my jokes? Am I not funny enough? I try so hard, but she never even cracks a smile...
The evasive and questionably existent answer reverberated until his mind was ready to split as a result of his excessive pondering. He buried himself back into his pillows, his painful, hopeless thoughts rendering him emotionally distressed. Eventually, he overheard the sound of large footsteps thudding down the corridor just beyond his room. Cyborg's urgent pounding on the door yanked Beast Boy back to reality.
"Ay man! You need to get up right now!" came his panicked voice, pulling Beast Boy from his thoughts.
Surprised and dazed, he rolled out of his bed and sprang to the door, jerking it open.
"What? What's happening?"
"Bad things, and they're only getting worse," he spat, grabbing hold of my arm, tugging me through the doorway.
"We need to leave right now!"
They raced down the passage, Cyborg explaining the situation.
"Slade breached the security system. I don't know how, but he has. He's operating from another location, I can't calculate where though. They're crawling through the windows and pouring in through the front entrance," He called back, running ahead and bounding into the operation's room, Sonic Cannon armed and ready.
Plaster caved as the left wall shattered with Starfire launched inward. She looked up at the two, beaten and weary.
"They brought... friends," she lamented.
Beast Boy's eyes lit and he released a growl, focusing his energy and beginning to shift forms.
"Where are Raven and Robin?" the changeling demanded.
"I believe Raven is on the third floor. Friend Robin is fighting out in front," she replied, eyes illuminating with vengeance before rocketing herself back outside.
Beast Boy gritted his teeth and turned towards the beautiful window view, before launching towards the sky and leaping airborne, shattering glass. He let his body freefall, enjoying the sensation for just a moment before morphing into a pterodactyl, extending his wings and arching skywards, curving his flight and soaring around the tower. One of the machines, having plunged from the rooftop, grabbed hold of the prehistoric bird, intercepting his path and sending him crashing through into the third floor.
Beast Boy, angered and riled, retaliated by chewing the head from the mechanism. To his dismay, the first thing he saw was Raven, outnumbered and outmatched. His protective, animalistic nature kicked in, throwing him into a fit of rage.
His attitude was reflected in his form, now a hulking, 9-foot tall gorilla. He swung his arms, ravaging Slade's forces.
"Azareth Metrion Zinthos!" came the familiar mantra, a sphere of dark energy enveloping the floor, forcing back enemies and protecting the Titans. Yells were heard from upstairs. Raven ghosted through the ceiling, pulling Beast Boy with her. Cyborg was fending off the horde of killer robots standing in his way.
Beast Boy, now a fierce rhinoceros, narrowed his eyes and targeted the most congested area of the crowd, scraping one foot against the ground in anticipation. Huffing, he charged forward, knocking back his opposition, allowing his friend time to regain ground and rejoin the fight.
If we go down, we're taking them with us...
