Rain. Soft, sweet, dark, white. It calms down the world, making everything cooler and more serene. It has feelings, too. Ice that burns your face. Warm, big drops that make you laugh. Or those soft rains that make you want to dance and skip through.
Ragetti smiles and turns his head upward to the sky, closing his eyes and letting the slow rain pour down on him. He sighs, long and deep, a content sigh and leans against the soggy railing of the ship.
A shiver runs through his back and his thighs as he thinks of the last time it rained. That maelstrom, swirling with anger, swallowing the ships slowly, horrifyingly slow.
He becomes nauseous and bows his head back down, ready to hurl. Instead he cries, his tears as slow as the rain. They spill into the ocean pointlessly, consumed by the vastness.
He continues to cry, thinking of how that day made him feel. Hopelessness, death, despair.
A large hand appears on his back and a warm body comes to his side. Pintel is wearing a soft expression, wanting to comfort his friend.
"'m so cold, Pinters," Ragetti sobs through the rain, turning to cling onto his shirt.
"Shh… s'okay, Rags. Pinters is here…" he coos softly, hugging Ragetti.
"I…I" Ragetti chokes, hiccupping and burying his head in Pintel's grey hair.
"I know Rags… s'okay. I un'erstand" he nods, kissing the one-eyed pirate's head
The rain had slowed to a stop by the time Ragetti regained what little composure he had. He sniffled and hiccupped for the last time.
"'M sorry, Pinters. I just… got scared…" he mumbled and rubbed his good eye with the heel of his hand.
A rainbow appeared through the blackened clouds and Pintel smiled. He turned Ragetti's head and pointed to the colours streaking across the sky.
"See tha'? I 'member whot ye told me bout them rainbows. God promises te protect ye an' love ye, right?"
"Tha's right, Pinters!" Ragetti grinned and hugged his soggy friend "You 'membered!"
Pintel laughed and hugged him back
"I promise te love ye an' keep ye safe, Ragetti" he said softly. Ragetti smiles and kissed him.
"Thank ye"
