Grip

Her hands are clammy. They're numb and cold. She's been clinging on far too long. What would it feel like to let go? To fall into the dark unknown of the glacier and never see the light of the day again?

Nobody will come. She honestly doesn't care anymore. She can only focus on trying to shift her useless fingertips and to breath. In. Out. In. Out.

Why is she still holding on? It's been hours! Does she really believe that her Prince Charming will arrive, his palms ignited and ready to burn her uncle to the ground?

No, she knows that won't happen. He doesn't care. She's a nuisance. Nobody wants her. She twitched a finger, slowly releasing the ice... No! She can't give in! She's the Avatar! The world needs her!

But... she's failed them so much. She failed to prevent the civil war between the north and south. Hell, she caused the war! If she didn't exist, the southern spirit portal would never have been opened and the world wouldn't be so vulnerable.

She gripped the ice harder. The last time she saw him was when they argued. When they broke up. Oh, how her temper got the better of her. Her heart's shattered. She can't take it back. By now, her friends are probably enjoying a night out, oblivious to her current near-death situation.

Or are they?

Even if they knew... would they care? Of course they would... right? They were the new team avatar, they stuck by each other! Through thick and thin...

She seemed to watch at a distance as the sun dropped below the horizon and a dark tint was added to the world.

Through the darkness she could faintly see her fingers turn from a blue to a purple and she knew she'd never survive this place.

She was too weak to pull herself up and she could only bend if she let go, and by now her arms were so numb she doubted it would even work. She let out a choked sob as tears trickled down her face.

Korra!

Goodbye dear world.

Korra!

Goodbye family

Korra!

Goodbye friends

KORRA!

Goodbye... Mako

This was it. She could no longer hold on. She let her fingers slide off the ice edge, and pain shot through her.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Her vision was clouding to black and she was falling but then she wasn't and something soft and hot was grabbing her arm and she was being pulled back away from the crevice and there were people calling her name but it was all moving too fast.

She blinked a few times and stared up in her dazed state. She was so weak and could barely make out the amber eyes frantically staring into hers as she was wrapped in something that warmed her. There were more voices and a pair of green eyes came into view, one with faint eyeliner bordering the edges. She tried to mumble something but her voice came out as a croak and she tried to clear her throat but all she could do was cough uncontrollably.

Light flickered and she shielded away from it. Her eyes were so used to the dark, to the cold, that it was just too overwhelming. The last thing she remembered was being hoisted into a pair of strong arms and resting her head into something red and soft before everything faded into sweet, sweet nothingness.
