Summary: Easter preparations and a little Ruby/Mary Margaret fluff
It was that time of year. Again.
"Easter," Ruby muttered as she emptied yet another bag of plastic eggs onto the table. Her displeased utterance earner her a slightly amused look of understanding from Mary Margaret who was standing on the other side of the table. In front of the teacher stood a bowl with enough jellybeans to feed an entire army of kids. In a way that was what they were doing.
Somehow the two of them had been assigned to fill the hundreds of colourful plastic eggs with candy for the annual Storybrooke Easter Egg Hunt. They had, of course, postponed the whole thing to the last minute. Mary Margaret having too much work to do at the school and Ruby, well, she was a procrastinator of great proportions.
The festivities were to take place the next day and so the two women were working as hard and fast as they could to get everything ready. The Mayor had been by earlier that morning, giving them both a stern look and a few choice words for their lack of progress and ever since they'd done their best to catch up with what was expected of them.
Emma and a few other townspeople would be by later to pick up the eggs as the Sheriff was in charge of the hiding bit of the preparations. Knowing the Mayor's complete lack of patience for the blonde woman, Ruby and Mary Margaret had decided they didn't want to keep the Sheriff waiting. Any kind of delay would be bad. Very bad.
Open egg, fill with candy, close egg, put in bag. Open egg, fill with candy, close egg, put in bag. Open egg, fill with candy, close... Ruby shuddered, she knew she would dream of this tonight. She probably wouldn't eat jellybeans for a long while either - a shame, she liked jellybeans.
"This is the last bag," Mary Margaret said as she poured a dozen more eggs onto the table. "I can do these if you fix us something to drink. I could use something a bit stronger than juice after this."
Ruby laughed. It was barely 3 o'clock, they'd made good time and, although it being early, she could go for a drink as well. The spring weather wasn't all that warm yet, but the sun was shining brightly and as its rays made their way through the windows the heat in the room had gradually increased since they'd started their work this morning. A nice cold drink sounded like a great idea.
Fixing a pitcher of her own special version of ice tea Ruby returned to the table just in time to see Mary Margaret fill one last egg and close it.
"Here," Ruby stretched across the table with two glasses and the pitcher. She felt the glasses slip from her hand and as she tried to save them from hitting the tabletop and shattering into pieces she dropped the pitcher, splashing Mary Margaret with the cool liquid. The schoolteacher stood still, a look of surprised shock on her face as the sweet smelling tea soaked through her thin top and chilled her skin.
"Ooops! Oh God! I'm sorry!" Ruby ran around the table, snatching a napkin from it and tried to clean up the mess she'd made of the other woman's shirtfront. It didn't really work. Instead her hands touched places of Mary Margaret's body which were normally off limits and once they both realized that, their eyes met.
Everything seemed to slow down, eggs and jellybeans forgotten in an instant. Ruby stopped moving her hands in their useless and ineffective drying quest. Instead she stared into green eyes, took a deep breath and leaned in. As their lips met they both closed their eyes and sighed.
"Happy Easter Mary Margaret," Ruby whispered against soft lips before claiming them again.
And again.
