A/N: I watched the season 2 finale the other day and decided that I had to write something for it. I've been dying to use "The Way I Loved You" by Taylor Swift for a fanfic but couldn't find a fandom to use it for. But then I thought Castle might just work. This is my first Castle fanfic, so I apologise if it's awful, but if anyone's interested I do have an idea for another piece from Castle's perspective. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
The Way I Loved You
~*~
Breakin' down and comin' undone
It's a roller-coaster kinda rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you

"The heart wants what the heart wants."
Kate Beckett stared at the empty seat in front of her and tried not to think about what Castle had said.
She tried not to think about him at all, if she was honest, because she didn't quite know what to think anymore. Not when it came to him
"The heart wants what the heart wants."
What did her heart want?
She had everything a woman could want: a good man, a great career and lots of comfortable shoes.* And yet...and yet it wasn't enough. It wasn't truly what she wanted.
Demming was a sweet guy; he was charming, he was handsome, dependable and he made her feel comfortable. Castle was...well, Castle.
Charming? Yes. Handsome? Sure. But he shook her up, kept her on her toes, he was unpredictable...and...boy was she going to miss him when he was gone.
That smile, that twinkle, that impish sense of humour...everything that made him Castle.
But he'd be back, she told herself firmly before she got to carried away. He had to be, anything else would be unacceptable.
Because...because...she needed him. She needed his unpredictability, his lust for life; Demming might have turned her head but Castle had touched her heart.
She closed her eyes briefly.
Demming.
She couldn't do this to him. Could she?
He was everything she'd thought she wanted, but...the heart wants what the heart wants and her heart wanted Castle.
She took a steadying breath.
She had to talk to Demming.
*this is a line from JAG, I forget which episode but it's something Mac says. I always thought it was kinda funny...
