His Eyes

There was a lot of blood in the palace. In truth, it had been unexpected. In fact, the only one who did not expect it was the one who had caused it. Tension had been high for months. The people of the palace had whispered nonstop and the guards on duty were pale with fear. Nonetheless, this was the last expected result because optimism had kept it at bay. And now they were all dead.

At the front stood Inu no Taisho and Takemaru of Setsuna, and all around them were crackling flames that were ready to embrace them. The two golden orbs that had once watched me kindly were now staring death in its face.

Before I had met him, everything had been normal. I had led the lifestyle of a princess in an era led by war. Nothing else mattered, even while I delved deeply into the fairytales of the stronger beings who could wipe out an entire army with a flick of their wrist. The stories had enchanted me and I knew no other that was more captivating. My fellow humans had cocooned me from the truth of demons. The fairytales were no more than an account of the existence of other creatures and the destruction that they had wrought on mankind. It was too late for me when I found that I was with a demon's child. It did not change my undying love for my dearest and my unborn child.

However, my irresponsibility killed my people; cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who I had grown up with for all of my life. My dear love killed them to come save me. Fast as he was to lay waste to my people, he was not quick enough when my dearest friend raised his spear and impaled me.

Then the song of my love's sword came for me, and I was brought back from the dead. His beautiful golden eyes warmed my fear-frozen heart. And then I heard the cries of our child. I clutched the newborn to my chest, for I would not escape tonight through death again.

"Inuyasha," the great Inu no Taisho said.

"What?" Takemaru growled out.

"His name will be Inuyasha," my lord answered.

"Inuyasha," I whispered, heart racing.

"Go," my love commanded.

"Yes," I replied, holding the bundle closer as I ducked my head and rushed into the hallways.

The clashing of swords spiked my fear. When I reached the snow-covered stream that ran through the forest, the mansion crumbled and the loud roar of my demon love filled the night.

"Izayoi, you must live long with Inuyasha," it echoed.

"Yes," I whispered, running deeper into the forest.
