The Captain of His Soul
He is free.
He can't believe it.
Four simple words, and he is free.
I don't love you, he hears her say, Dammit, Leonard…I don't love you anymore. I did once, but…you weren't the one.
The pretense of her love, her need, was the only reason he's stayed for so long. He has suffered through so much with her…the long, painful fights, her stubborn, uncompromising attitude, her disappointment when he refused to comply.
But now…
He walks out of the courthouse into the sunlight, emotions stirring in him like a swarm of bees. She has taken everything from him. His reputation, his home, his little girl…but one thought, one simple thought, sits among all of that, beneath all the anger and sorrow, a shocked, joyful idea:
He is the master of his fate. He is the captain of his soul.
He is free.
