AN: Hello everyone. I'm a longtime Office watcher and have written before, but mostly in the Tin Man section. After Thursday, I just had to give poor Jim a break, so here we have Pam's realization of what happened in "Goodbye, Toby". Spoilers for that ep, FYI. Enjoy!
Trouble Sleeping
Pam Beesly couldn't sleep. She was feeling so lost after the day she'd just had. She had been sure…more than sure that Jim was going to propose. Things had been perfect…she'd called them perfect. Then a thought hit her.
It was too obvious.
That was it. He had promised the proposal would kick her ass. If he had done it during fireworks and music and that moment that had been created it would have been too obvious. Cliché even. I mean, come on, Andy chose to propose then. If that doesn't show that it was far too obvious…
What was that even? He brought his parents? And Angela had said yes! Wait, it was okay. How could she though? She didn't love Andy. In fact she seemed to hate him. Dating him had mostly been out of spite to Dwight after the Sprinkles incident. It hadn't been supposed to last. The look on Dwight's face…he could be a pain but that was the look of a broken hearted man. That look…
"Oh, my God!!" Pam exclaimed, sitting up straight. Jim jumped in his sleep and his eyes opened.
"Pam? You okay?" He sat up to meet her level.
"Jim…oh, sorry just…really weird dream. Woke me up. It's okay. Go back to sleep." Jim rubbed his eyes.
"You sure? Do I at least get to know the dream?" Pam fake laughed as she struggled for a cover story.
"I don't think you wanna know…mental scarring and what not."
"I'm already awake." Then it hit Pam.
"I dreamt Angela and Dwight were doing it at her desk. I dunno…I guess I just had Angela on my mind after tonight. Andy proposing and all." And there was the look. Now, Pam was sure.
"Yeah." Jim gave a sort of sigh. "Not sure who I feel worse for. Angela, Andy, or Dwight?"
"I guess time will tell on that one. Go back to sleep, Jim."
"Okay. Goodnight, Beesly." He laid his head back down and after a few moments, she could hear the deep breaths of sleep.
I was right. He was going to propose. I knew that look. When Andy proposed, two men had that broken hearted look. Dwight and Jim. I guess I was in shock and maybe I thought he was feeling bad for Dwight, but no. He had that look again when I brought it up. He had planned to. But Andy Bernard had ruined it. Who would want to be a follow up to anything Andy did?
Poor Jim. He was so excited…and I got disappointed. He was devastated.
Pam lay back down and placed her head right next to Jim's.
"I love you, Jim." She said and kissed him lightly.
It's going to happen, and when it does, it's gonna kick his ass how ready I'll be.
