the END.

Summary; Never before had those two simple words meant so much to Dominic. The machine he was piloting, the end that would ensue if he failed, and his own end if he succeeded... [Manga Fic]

Pairing; Some one sided DominicxAnemone

Rating; K+ (Nothin' going on in here. ~.^)

Warning; MAJOR MANGA SPOILERS. It's sad. Really sad. I cried as I wrote it.

Author's Note; This is just some drabble, because a thought occurred to me – how did Dominic feel as he fought off the Coralians, knowing he would lose his life? As soon as I finished the Eureka Seven manga, I knew I absolutely had to write this. And it's been floating around my head for a while now, so I figured that this was the best to time to write it. As in, when I'm supposed to be studying for my AP exam. Oops. Please R&R!

Dominic grunted as more of the Coralian's vicious coral bit into his leg. He and theEnd were both in sorry shape - he with gashes and coral protruding every which way, and theEnd with limbs and chunks of metals missing.

And it hurt.

By God, it hurt.

And yet thoughts of giving up, of stopping to keep his life, of maybe even getting to see Anemone again - they never once crossed his mind. Dominic was a man on a mission. He had to keep the Coralians busy. He had to give Renton and Eureka the chance they needed. He had to save their world - for Renton, for Eureka, for all the people, but most of all, for Anemone. They – she - had to be happy.

Dominic fired off shot after shot, desperately trying to conserve ammo and destroy everything in sight simultaneously. It wasn't working. The Coralian had devastating healing speeds and it took perfectly accurate hits to incapacitate and kill them.

Unfortunately, perfectly accurate hits tended to be rather difficult when you were stuck through with coral in ten different places.

Dominic cried out as a spear of coral crashed through theEnd and into his stomach. Never before had those two simple words meant so much to Dominic. The machine he was piloting, the end that would ensue if he failed, and his own end if he succeeded.... Oh yes, his end was very near. But he kept on firing. As the blood seeped from his body, his shots became more and more reckless – precious bullets went flying in random directions, and only rarely did they hit their targets.

On and on it went – stab, shoot, stab, shoot. He couldn't stop. He wouldn't stop, not until he was completely and totally dead. Anemone's face flashed through his mind, and his grip on the controls got just a little bit tighter. He could hear her song in the back of his brain, could see her happiness as she munched through another sweet thing.

Odd, he thought. It's gotten so much darker.

Through the descending darkness, he clicked the fire button, only to find nothing happen. He clicked again, and again, and again and still nothing happened.

Ah.

Dominic had finally run out of ammo.

As if they knew, the destructive, virus-infected Coralians redoubled their efforts, sinking spears into him all over.

Dominic no longer cried out in pain – he didn't feel anything. Didn't see anything. Nothing but Anemone, dancing and singing and laughing and eating and crying and that kiss -

And then a lucky Coralian really hit its mark. The spear of coral went straight through the giant rent in theEnd and found its way into Dominic's chest.

As he faded out into nothingness, Anemone's song ran through his head again.

"If only I had a brain..."

Dominic smiled, thinking of the one he loved, of the one he had always loved, no matter how she had treated him. And Dominic, brave, proud, strong, stupid Dominic slipped away, hoping against hope that it had been enough, that his Anemone would always be safe....

Fin.
