A/N: An idea that popped into my head. Decided to write it down. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, all belongs to Joss Sterling.
A book slammed down by my head and I sat up rod straight in my chair. My father was glaring at me from the other side of the desk. I'd fallen asleep.
"Emilia." he hissed.
"Sorry daddy." I said, lowering my eyes.
"Damn right you are. You'd be dead right now, if I were any of them" he snapped. I repressed a shudder, staring straight at him, by 'them' he meant the guys after us, the rival crime lords, who wanted my dad out the way. Me too I guess. I wasn't really the type to tremble and shake if someone threatened me, my baby brother or my father, more like I would kick their asses and make sure they never came near us again.
"It won't happen again." I promised.
"I expect those floor plans to be memorised by tomorrow, you'll be bugging the main parts of the school- without my help ."
I nodded. He studied me for a second longer
"I'm going on a business trip, I won't be back for at least a week."I nodded quickly.
Business trip was code word for a job. And by job it meant he was going to be getting his hands bloody. His footsteps marched out of the room and down the stairs, a few minutes later the front door slammed. I sighed. Putting my head in my hands I tried to force my bran to focus. I had to think. I'd been studying these floor plans for the last two hours. In my view, starting at a new school in a new town meant I had to be prepared. Add in the fact that the new school was Wrickenwridge, Colorado and the fact that the new school was the same school the Benedict brothers were or had attended and I needed to be extra prepared. True, I was a bit too old to be going to high school but at 19 nearly 20 and still being 5'4 with big brown eyes and blond hair I looked around 16. Not great really, as it meant no one ever took me seriously when I was on a job.
"Emmy?" a sleepy voice came from behind me. I turned.
"Hey Natey." I siad, softly, My six year old brother stood behind me, rubbing his eyes.
"Where's daddy?" he asked, walking over to me, stumbling a little over his pyjama pants. I scooped him up and held him close.
"He's gone on a trip sweetie. He'll be back soon." I whispered against his hair.
"I had a nightmare." he said.
I didn't have to ask what it was about. It was always the same. It had been since that night. He was only three then.
"It's okay, baby. Do you want to sleep here tonight?" I asked.
"Mm hm" he nodded, sleepily.
I carried him over to my bed and covered him with the comforter, He curled up and closed his eyes as I kissed his forehead. Walking over to my desk I looked over the plans again. I knew them well enough. Well enough to hurt the people responsible for Nate's nightmares, for my dads heartbreak, for the constant ache deep in my chest that I never could forget. The people responsible for my mother being torn from our lives.
