In Which Dallas Genoard Sings A Duet in the Car
2002, July
[Suggested Listening: Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, Iris by The Goo-Goo Dolls]
"Dallas, it's freezing in here, can you turn the air down a tad?"
"People always told me, be careful what you do—"
"Dallas."
"And don't go around breakin' young girls' hearts—"
"Dallas."
"And Mother always told me, be careful who you love—"
"I'm turning it down, Dallas."
"Be careful what you do—touch it and you die," Dallas Genoard growled to the man currently sitting next to him. Luck Gandor paused with his hand over the A/C control, then moved it slowly back to rest on his thigh as Dallas hummed the rest of the chorus, fingers tapping on the steering wheel of his Cadillac as they stopped at a red of his arms rested out of the rolled-down window, the warm summer air harshly mixing with the freezing A/C. Luck didn't understand why Dallas did this—it was one of many of his beautiful eccentricities. Sighing softly, Luck leaned back in his seat, gazing out of his window. It'd been so, so long, but it didn't feel like it. How could so much time pass so fast?
"Hey, Luck," Dallas said as the light changed and he pushed down hard on the gas pedal. "How come you never sing anymore? 'S been, what, ten years since I last heard ya'?" Luck cursed as the sudden acceleration pushed him against the seat, glaring at Dallas out of the corner of his eye.
"Please don't do that," he sighed, choosing to address his careless driving first, then answering his question. "I've had no reason to, Dallas."
"Well, now ya' do," the other remarked, moving his hand that had previously been hanging out of the window to the wheel so he could reach with his other over to the radio. Currently, he had a CD in, one that he'd burned with his favorite songs, and he pressed the "forward" button until he found the song he wanted. Listening to the opening chords, Luck sighed again.
"Dallas—"
"C'mon, babe. Just this once, just for me." He didn't turn to look at Luck, just gave him that quiet plea, and that was all he really needed as his husband began to sing along with him.
"And I'd give up forever to touch you…"
