"Is this how we're going to spend our vacation? In a city?" I asked.
"Yes, a city with the best theatre and zoo around, St. Louis!" he answered. That's what he always does. Plans elaborate vacations for us that usually leave me regretting letting him plan it.
"Okay so where is this zoo? Let's do that first." I said.
"Shush teme," wink. "I've got it under control. Trust me." he replied.
"Naruto Uzumaki, if you don't at least tell me our first stop, I'm gonna leave you." I threatened. He looked shocked but spoke calmly.
"Okay fine. Our first destination is indeed the zoo. And our first exhibit?" he smiled, "The snakes of course!" he hugged me happily.
"Seriously? Are you sure you don't mean snacks?" I teased.
He looked me straight in the eye with completely serious and said, "No, you'll get tomatoes later." I blushed.
We were looking at the snakes while I was pointing out the different types, since Naruto bet I couldn't. Suddenly I heard it. A roar. It came from the Jungle exhibit. People started screaming and we both saw it at the same time. A tiger. It was straight for us. I got out of the way but Naruto was too confused to run so he just stood there.
"NARUTO!" I screamed. As I ran towards him, it felt like everything around me slowed down but happened all at once. Naruto and the tiger both looked at me but the tiger kept running straight. I remember pushing Naruto out of the way, getting slammed into the cage behind me by the tiger, and Naruto screaming and reaching for me. I lost all consciousness and woke up once, still at the zoo. I saw red and heard sirens. Naruto was off to the side crying. I passed out again.
I woke up in a hospital bed in Konoha. Naruto was crying in a chair by the foot of my bed. "Na...ru...to..." I said weakly. He looked up and started to smile.
"I...I thought you wouldn't wake up! The tiger threw you around like a toy until the zookeeper could get it's attention. He broke your left arm and right leg. I was so worried!" He started crying again.
"Naruto...come here." I said quietly. My voice still hadn't come back completely. He came to where I pointed and I used my right arm to pull him in to kiss him. "I'm okay, don't worry Dobe." He smiled, wiped away his tears, and went to a bag to grab something.
As he turned around, he laughed and said, "Good. Because I need help eating these tomatoes I bought." I laughed and took one.
I guess this"ll always be a story we can tell our kids someday... "The Tiger and the Tomatoes."
