Spoilt for choice
"...We need to find someone who can perform the ceremony," Captain Janeway said.
"It's not that easy," Chakotay reminded her, "You're the captain. So you're the only one on board who could." He saw how his fiancée rolled his eyes. Planning their wedding was more complicated than she had expected. Neelix had questioned about the food and they had to decide what he should serve. The doctor had faced the fact that he wanted to maintain the custom of throwing rice at the bride and groom and Harry had asked her a few days ago, if they had already chosen a background music for the ceremony. B'Elanna wanted to know if she preferred to wear a wedding dress or if she would wear her festive uniform. Chakotay had been with her in that moment and listened to their conversation. He wanted to answer to B´Elanna´s question and he explained that he wanted to see Kathryn in a wedding dress. She blushed as he said it. Then Tom had asked about the rings and then Neelix suggested a place for honeymoon.
"I'm the only person on board who could?", she repeated questioningly.
"Privilege of the Captain," Chakotay agreed. On the way to the bridge they now had to get out of the turbo lift and walking down a corridor. At the end of the corridor the next lift was waiting.
"Let me think: Tuvok would be the next senior officer", Chakotay began.
"I want him to lead me to the altar," Kathryn objected, "My father can´t do that and he's one of my closest friends..."
He sighed as they entered the lift. "What about Tom?"
Kathryn laughed snorting. "Tom Paris? No... How about B'Elanna "
"I thought she could be my best man," Chakotay suggested, "And I suppose Seven is not an option."
"No," she agreed, "Unless you want to hear on the day of our wedding she thinks love is a disease." Kathryn put much emphasis on Seven's personal development, but it was assumed that the former Borg drone could easily be overwhelmed by this task. "Then we have Harry Kim, Neelix and the Doctor."
They thought of Harry and then they both shook their heads.
The lift reached the bridge and they both got out. They went to their stations. "All right," Captain Kathryn Janeway sat down in her captains- chair, crossed her legs and leaned into Chakotay's direction, "We still have the Doctor and Neelix."
"I tend to Neelix," the Commander said.
"Neelix?" Kathryn raised her eyebrows.
"What excuse do you have this time?", he smiled at her.
"What if Neelix suddenly dances?", she wanted to know. They had decided to get married on the holodeck. In Toms Caribbean simulation. She wanted to avoid that Neelix started dancing because of joy.
Kathryn smiled as she thought of the dress in which her future husband would like to see her. It was beautiful and she grinned even more, as she imagined how she looked in it and how their reddish, long hair shone in the sun, even when it wasn´t a real sun, but the sun on the holodeck.
"All right," Chakotay finally gave up, "The Doctor." He suspected that the chosen could possibly hardly keep with joy when he learned of it. But at least he would behave at the ceremony.
"Yes, we´ll ask him," she agreed, smiling. When she was sure that the bridge crew wouldn´t mind for a brief moment, she reached for his hand and smiled. Chakotay smiled back. She was sure that they would stay together forever.
