The One who Stayed
Disclaimer: Me no own Sky High.
AN: This took me all of five minutes in my lunch break. Flame away.
…
It was silly anyway,
As he was the one who stayed.
It was silly they feared his father, his wrath, when he would never see the light of day ever again.
It was silly that they muttered words behind his back, as he could hear them anyway.
It was all silly to her anyway,
As he was the one who stayed.
It was stupid that they all shrunk back at his gaze, when he had never done anything wrong.
It was stupid that they all thought he was dark and evil and just like his father, when they themselves complained to their friends that they were nothing like their parents. Why was he any different?
It was stupid to her anyway (not to them),
As he was the one who stayed.
They all said that she would be better with the Commander's son, that they had been friends since birth so why stop there? Why, she asked. Why did he leave, and yet the Commander's child threw her away.
They all asked behind her back (why would she give him up? To be with him) and the answer was simple: Will had never waited, and yet Warren stayed.
They questioned their friends, and their parents, and when their pretty little minds were appeased, they gave up on the questioning and left.
Then the friends came and left, saying the oddest things, like: come back to us! But it wasn't she who had left, it was them. And so they left again, as she knew they would.
It was all very simple to her anyway: Warren Peace was the one who stayed.
