She woke up scared, in the dark, and almost screamed when she remembered… She was safe and away from the scary man that had wanted to hurt her and mommy. Rubbing her eyes she sniffled, fighting the away the fears and tears to the best of her ability but she soon found out that she couldn't do it. Turning over she saw her mommy sleeping. She didn't want to wake her up, because she was supposed to be a big girl and sleep without bugging her anymore so she turned to the other side that was empty and frowned.

Where was Daddy? He wasn't REALLY her daddy but since he and mommy were going to get married she decided to call him daddy. Her real daddy was in heaven, but she liked THIS daddy too. He looked kinda funny, a big walking turtle! But he was nice to her and mommy and liked to read books with her and play pretend. He was even showing her how to hit someone the right way, but she wasn't supposed to tell mommy, not yet.

"Daddy?" she asked softly, grabbing for the stuffed teddy bear he had given her and clutching it to her chest. Slowly she crawled out of bed, not scared because of the night light daddy had put in their room. Her uncles said she could have her own room by grandpa Splinter, and she was excited for it, but a little scared to be away from Mommy… But Grandpa Splinter said if she was scared she could find him…. But really, all she wanted now was…

"Daddy?"

The four-year old girl with strawberry blonde curls put her thumb in her mouth, her blue eyes wide as she walked barefoot down the hall, her bear in her hand and trailing on the floor behind her. Her Hello Kitty pajamas swished as she moved down the stairs. She heard the toilet flush in the bathroom and she ran for the door as it opened and wrapped her arms around the leg of-

"Daddy!"

"Whoa," said Daddy before he scooped her up and held her in his arms. Quickly she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her face into his neck, holding him and her teddy nice and tight. She was safe now…. "What's wrong?"

"Bad dream. The man was back. He wanted to hurt me and mommy."

"Emily, baby, the man is gone. He won't come back. Ever."

"Ever?" she asked, turning to stare into his eyes with widened blue. "Forever and ever?"

"Yes, Sweetheart. Forever and ever."

"Good."

"Let's go back to bed," he said.

"Cookie?"

"Emily…"

"Pllleeeaaasseee?" she asked, pouting, because she knew Daddy couldn't say no to her 'pout-face. Uncle Casey had said so.

"Fine. ONE cookie," he said, holding up one finger.

"Boo-Boo wants a cookie too," she said, waving her bear, the leg of it smacking the back of her dad's head softly.

"Ok, he can have one too."

"Daddy?"

"Yes?" he asked, carrying her to the kitchen and setting her down in a chair. She watched him, a serious look on her face while he grabbed cookies, two glasses, and pulled the milk out of the fridge.

"Does mommy love you?"

"Yes," he said with a smile. "And I love your mommy."

"And you are going to get married?"

"Yes."

"And I'm the flower girl," she said proudly, grabbing a cookie out of his green hand, biting it, and talking around it. "I like my dress. You will too. And Mommy's. She looks beauty-i-ful."

"I'm sure she does," he said, smiling into his glass of milk as she ate her cookie.

"Daddy?"

"Yes?"

"I love you," she said, grinning with Oreo stuck all around her lips and staining her teeth.

"Love you, too, Squirt."
