Chapter 1: Running Shoes/Katniss POV
Author's Note – Post-MJ. Hopefully a series of short moments following the survivors of the War. Comments, reviews, are welcome!
My arms and legs are in a sprinters position when I finally wake, a scream still stuck in my throat. It's dark out, and I barely register that I'm on the couch downstairs, a blanket tossed to the floor.
Shaking, I get up. I have to check the house. For mutts, I say. In case they come back. In case I have to start running again…
The nightmares don't stop. One minute I'm in my home and then I'm back in the arena. Then 13. And there are bombs falling from the sky, and I see Prim running and I can't do anything to help her –
No. Not tonight. I take in a shaky breath. I tug my leather coat around my body. Not tonight.
It takes me a while but I finish sweeping my home. There's nothing but the sound of my boots hitting the wood floors as I step, nobody but me.
I don't even bother taking my shoes off when I decide to lay back down on the couch. If I leave them on, I can run. I can run from whoever is chasing me.
I just need to run faster.
Where am I going with this? I don't even know! But most chapters will be like this, I hope you enjoyed!
