They were lying on the impala, a thin blanket covering them against the cool night air and hands curling towards each other. Why they were there wasn't really important. In fact, their whole reason for this was to forget all that had been going on. Besides, anyone would tell you that those two had been working hard and deserved a night to themselves.

After hours of just talking and laughing, the sun had set and they were left staring silently at the stars. Unbeknownst to the other person, both of them, while enjoying the simple peace, craved the touch and voice of the man next to him. Coincidentally, both man and ex-angel were too afraid to do anything about it.

After a little while longer of this, Cas couldn't take it anymore. He turned his head to face the hunter. "Don't you just love the color of the sky?"

Dean felt his heart skip a beat at the gravelly voice of his best friend. All they had been through together- the laughs, and tears, and every moment in between- and he still wasn't man enough to tell Cas how much he really cared about Him. From the first time he saw his deep blue eyes he knew. Knew he was in for a roller coaster of mixed up emotions and he knew it was wrong. He was STRAIGHT for god's sake. But he couldn't deny the way he felt around his angel- the attraction, the overwhelming joy, the possessiveness, the pure love- for much longer. He'd have to tell him sooner or later.

Before he knew what was going on, deans hand curled around the angel's. "yeah I do." He smiled at the mixture of emotions flittering across castiels face. "It's the color of your eyes."

His perfect lips curled up into a shy smile. "You think so?"

"I know so. And that's not the only thing. I know that you're one of the best people I know. I know that you're adorable when you're confused; that damn head tilt of yours gets me every time. I know that you're perfect the way you are." The smile disappeared as he squeezed cas's hand. "I know that not once, not even when you went dark side or when you lost your mind, I never stopped loving you. I always have and always will"

Cas felt his mind whir and his breath hitch. "But, dean-"

Dean shook his head. "No buts, Cas. I get it if you don't feel the same way. It's fucking messed up, I get it. But I will not sit here and-" he was interrupted by Cas firmly pulling dean into a kiss.

When they finally broke for air, the former angel chuckled a bit. "Of course I love you, you idiot. How could I not? You're everything I've ever wanted."

Dean could count on his hand the amount of times he'd truly been happy in the past few years, but he couldn't stop the silly little grin from spreading across his face. "You mean it?"

"Yeah, I do."

They spent the rest of the night just lying in each other arms. Once the sun had risen and the light had awoken them, Cas asked the question to which the answer they had both been dreading. "So, which one of us is going to tell Sam?"
