A/N: I had a dream and wrote this around it. Let me know if you like it. It's very short...but interesting. Thanks to araeo for being my beta and encouraging me to write more.

BEING FOREVER

"Look at me," she commanded. I lifted my head toward where she was perched in the tree. "I'm a walking contradiction, Edward. What was it that Walt Whitman said?"

"'Do I contradict myself?'" I began.

"Very well, then. I contradict myself," she finished. She stood on a branch which normally would have cracked under the weight of a human, but it held strong beneath her without even the slightest protest. She flung herself from the tree and landed on me, wrapping her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist. "Hard as marble, Edward, yet light as a feather. I could walk on top of snow without disturbing it if I wanted to."

"I know, Bella," I said, staring into her deep crimson eyes.

"Cold as ice, but with the right...borrowed strength, I could blush just like you," she said stroking the artery in my neck.

"Yes, Bella," I breathed.

"Death rests within me, yet I smell sweet like flowers." I breathed in that smell as she exhaled and my mind swam. Bella shifted against me. "No longer does life flow within this body," she reached down between us and circled her fingers around me through my jeans, "but I am as ready for you as you are for me."

I groaned. My body begged for her touch, but I was frightened. She could kill me in an instant. My smell had once been too much for her to resist. Now, well, things seemed to get easier day by day. I knew she wouldn't knowingly hurt me, but one small slip was all it would take.

I swallowed thickly, throbbing in her hand to the rhythm of my heart. She gently squeezed me with each beat. "I'm a predator meant to be feared. You are afraid of me right now, yet you stay. You want me. You love me."

"Yes."

"Forever?"

"Yes."

And as she lowered her mouth to my neck, I didn't consider whether or not the sweet flowers were worth the life I was choosing. I didn't need to think about it or debate. I didn't need to weigh the pros and cons of being forever.

For being forever meant Bella for eternity.
