I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm
An NCIS Fanfiction.
Tony was singing. It was eleven fifty-five on New Year's Eve and Tony was singing. He was stark naked, fresh out of the shower, and singing – to himself – in the bathroom mirror.
"What do I care how much it may storm? I've got my love to keep me warm."
It was storming. The temperature had dropped below freezing on the twenty-seventh and stayed there. Outside Mother Nature was piling snow inside the Beltway but Tony was inside Gibbs' bathroom and snug as a bug in a rug.
"I cannot remember a worse December. Just watch the icicles form. What do I care if icicles form? I've got my love to keep me warm."
Tony whipped his hairbrush down and sang a few lines into his "microphone". It was Gibbs' fault he had Dean Martin on the brain. The radio stations were still playing Christmas music and while Tony had never understood the song's association with Christmas (just snowing and love, no presents, jolliness or religion) the local station had played it twice between nine and ten am.
Tony was only slightly preening in the mirror, fluffing up his hair (not too much effort mind – he'd be sleeping on it soon). He grabbed his toothbrush from its space next to Gibbs' and proceeded to brush his pearly whites – while continuing to sing.
His words were incredibly garbled but decipherable.
"Off with my overcoat off with my gloves. Who needs an overcoat? I'm burning with love. My heart's on fire and the flame grows higher. So I will weather the storm-"
He spit.
"What do I care how much it may storm? I've got my love to keep me warm."
He drummed out the instrumental on the sink counter and closed his eyes. He was on a stage and the audience was cheering his name: Dean, Dean, Dean! Okay so maybe they were cheering Dean, but regardless the feeling was amazing. Oh to run with the Rat Pack…
But Tony's mental metronome signaled the next verse.
"I thought you ought to know my heart's on fire. The flames they just leap higher. So I will weather the storm. Why do I care how much it storms?"
"I've got my love to keep me warm." The warm tenor echoed from behind him and Tony spun around, opening his eyes.
Gibbs stood in the doorway, smiling at him. Tony blushed.
"How long have you been standing there?"
"Mmm, long enough, I think." He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Tony, pulling him in for a hug.
"Happy New Year, Tony."
Tony glanced up at the clock and the wall and sure enough it was midnight on the dot. He wrapped his arms around Gibbs' back and squeezed.
"Happy New Year."
Gibbs shifted enough to press a kiss to Tony's lips.
It was going to be a good year.
A/N:
Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all the best year possible!
Love,
silentlullabye
