All American Girl

All American Girl

Since the day they got married,
He'd been praying for a little baby boy.
Someone he could take fishing,
Throw the football and be his pride and joy.
He could already see him holding that trophy,
Taking his team to state.
But when the nurse came in with a little pink blanket,
All those big dreams changed.

I'll never forget that perfect day, July 28th. I married Amy Lynn Juergens. She became Amy Lynn Underwood. She was twenty-four, I was twenty-five. That night, Amy got pregnant. We found out two weeks later. I wanted the baby to be a boy. We could have a little Ricky Andrew Underwood Jr. He'd be a football player. I'd teach him to be a good man. Thirty-six weeks later, a nurse handed me a beautiful baby in a pink blanket. I guess I wasn't going to have my son after all.

And now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect

All-American Girl.

Amy and I welcomed Anabella Faith Underwood into our home. I'd do anything for her. I'd die for her in a millisecond. She means more to me than life. She has gorgeous green eyes. She's the most amazing baby, she's so perfect. I love her more and more everyday.

Sixteen short years later,
She was falling for the senior football star.
Before you knew it he was dropping passes,
Skipping practice just to spend more time with her.
The coach said "Hey son, what's your problem? Tell me, have you lost your mind?"
Daddy said you'll lose your free ride to college, boy you better tell her goodbye.

Sixteen years later, my daughter was a Junior at Grant High School. She had a new boyfriend named Darren Lee. I thought I was the only man in her life. Amy, our son Ricky, and I would go to the football games. Darren was doing horribly ever since he and Anabella started dating. One day the coach told him he'd lose everything if he stayed with Anabella. He chose Anabella over football.

But now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American...

One day, Darren and I had a little chat. He told me he loved Anabella more than anything. She was the love of his life. He told me that at his graduation party he was going to propose to Anabella. I knew at that very moment Anabella's charm worked on Darren. She was beautiful and was becoming a woman.

And when they got married and decided to have one of their own,
She said "Be honest, tell me what do you want?"
And he said "Honey, you oughta know... Sweet, little, beautiful... one just like you. Oh a beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American..."

December 16th 2027 Anabella and Darren got married. Anabella was only eighteen years old. Six months later, they decided it was time for a baby. My nineteen year old daughter wanted a baby, wow. Darren told her he wanted a beautiful little girl that turned out just like her. Nine months later, my beautiful granddaughter, Melanie Adriana Lee was born. She was just as beautiful as her mother was when she was born. I love her more and more each day.
