I don't think much could top Mae Blue's Guilty Melody but I hope this story keeps insanity from going extinct. Special thanks to Kira31. GuiltyKingOumaShu's Eternal Guilt and Mae Blue's The Void King are highly recommended. Additionally, I send my thanks to the author of Dark Crown of the Guilty King for mentioning my story so highly. It feels like the world to me (as at the time I was an amateur writer of a high school student). It also drew a laugh out of me, because I'm a girl, not a guy.
Chapter 1: It Ain't Me (Selena Gomez)
Trust was something that Triton had stomped repeatedly and shoved into the furthest corner in his mind from the half of decade he went through in Daath facility. 'You wouldn't hurt' but he did. 'You'll be fine' but he wasn't. 'We'll escape' but he didn't. 'You'll die' but he didn't.
Then scratching papers and bright fluorescent lights were replaced with soft sunsets and warm sunrises of Oshima with the Kurosu siblings. Shu was a quiet presence, but he was always there. Always reliable, Triton never had and never once feared that Shu wouldn't keep to his word. He only feared that from Mana who was mischievous to a fault and always had the last word but never keeping the last laugh to herself. Even if Triton had more fingers than friends, because the three people in his life were his family Triton was always happy every single day.
Until yesterday. Triton had to tell his little brother. Not to alienate Mana but because if anyone could figure out Mana it's her little brother. It was always Shu. Shu could see straight to big sister unlike Triton who was her favorite victim because he fell to almost everything because he had given his trust in both of them. It was always funny and embarrassing and humiliating when she's particularly angry and happy and awesome but it never got them hurt. She never got them hurt with her random mischief. She never had. And Triton wanted to cry because his chest was heavy and cold and hurts.
Cold air caressed his cheek then froze his throat when Triton heard Shu opening the church's large doors, calling out his name, then exclaiming his sister's in surprise, then shouting Triton's again.
"Triton! Neechan, why is he sleeping on the ground?"
"Ignore him, Shu."
Triton tried to get up but let out a cry of hurt when his wound was jostled.
"Triton?" Shu ran towards them, "Is that a gun?"
"Yup," Mana affirmed.
"Isn't that Haruka's?" Triton wanted to tell his little brother to get away from the gun and from Mana but his dry throat failed him and he could only sob in pain. Pain he used to have been used to, but his body never went through this kind of pain under Shu's watchful eyes and Mana's care and sometimes Haruka's nagging throughout the greatest summer in his life. Now, it took every bit of his will to stop himself from going unconscious because that's not something he could afford now with Shu possibly in danger of Mana whom he could confidently say she must have lost her sanity with what she just said to her little brother. Lost it to Eve.
Oh God, Triton could feel his stomach sinking. Mana was Patient Zero. Mana was Eve. She was choosing her Adam. His fault. This is his fault. He made her rush. If he hadn't confronted her about the crystals, put pressure on her about the virus, Eve wouldn't have rushed to choose her Adam.
"Genes? Are you talking about Otousan's work?"
"No! Forget about him too!" Mana's hands reached out to Shu's and clasped his in hers. "I'm talking about us!"
Provided I live through my birthday, I'll update on March 20.
