Converse In the Universe
Chapter 1 - Unexpected
I was never popular with other people, but I never really minded that. If I'm honest I was happy to have my small circle of friends who cared. At least... I thought they did.
Wednesday night:
Me and my dad always had a good relationship. For as long as I've known him he's always been the better parent of the two, but tonight my rage was aimed at him and him alone.
I lay on my bed, staring at the blue ceiling imagining clouds, headphones blazing out my music, filling my head, pushing away my thoughts. A sudden silence. My phone vibrated 'Dad'. I sighed and pulled out my headphones, ''Yes''. This was it, time for the rant of the century. ''Hello son''. I paused, what was this? A calm Dad scared me more then an angry one.
I'd sent my dad a message about how outraged I was that he was handing down the company to my sister and not me. She wasn't even qualified! I however had spent almost everyday of my free life since I was 7 learning the ins and outs of KaibaCorp. But just because she was older then me she was the one taking over! I'd given my dad a piece of my mind and told him exactly what I thought of him, how he'd made a horrible mistake and I hoped the company burnt to the ground, but in more... select, words.
''Where are you?'' he spoke calmly, which is very unlike him. ''I'm at home, why do you care?'' I replied in not such a polite manor.
''I'm coming over, is that ok?'' he remained calm. This could only mean he wanted to rant at me to my face not over the phone. Fun.
''Do whatever you want'' I hung up. I figured he was already mad enough so my attitude wasn't going to make a huge difference.
It was a 30 minute drive from work to my house. I lived in a small house with 2 bedrooms and every other bog standard room, I'd moved out of my mums when I was 14. Thanks to my job I could afford to move out straight away and pay for furniture and decorating etc. I worked – as would be expected – at KaibaCorp as a designer/manufacturer. My latest design for the Duel Disk 3000 had been a hit in the dueling world and made record profits, and so naturally my pay check was a rather good one. I'd never really been into dueling. I didn't understand how fighting with stupid holographic monsters could ever entertain someone but the market for it was wide and extremely varied and I loved that. Business was my first hobby and music was my second.
10 minutes pasted before he knocked on my door. A bad sign. May aswell prepare myself for the biggest bollocking of my life: but when I opened the door what I got was something completely different. I opened the door cautiously, ready to duck incase he tried to headbutt me, but he just stood there. A stern look on his face as always. For a few seconds I thought he'd become a zombie again (back when I was 10 uncle Marik tried to make everyone into a zombie but uncle Yugi stopped him and put him back in jail.) Moments passed and I saw something I'd only seen twice in my whole life.
The first time I'd seen my Dad smile (which I couldn't remember), was the day I was born. The second was when I got suspended from the academy for 2 weeks for throwing a dictionary at 'Mr. Goody Tu Shoes', Daisuke. He stood there at my door, smiling away to himself and if you could have seen it you'd realize why he never smiles - I could have sworn in the distance I heard a couple of puppies dying.
''Son I'm giving you the company''
