Thought I would base this off of the fact that Teto Kasane is supposed to be a chimera. The main characters are Teto, Len, Rin, Gumi, and eventually, Miku. Hope you enjoy. Rated T for some violence and minor vulgar language.
.~ Chapter 1 ~.
Rin stood outside the building, leaning against the cold brick wall. Inside her brother was trying to get the manager to let them stay a night without paying. She was sure it wasn't going to work, but he had insisted on trying. "May as well try and fail than fail to try," he had said.
A man with brown hair walked up the hotel's pathway. He was about to enter when he stopped suddenly. He looked at Rin and she felt her blood run cold.
"Shit…" she muttered as he began to approach her. Her mind was racing, which was rare for her, when somebody exited the hotel.
Noticing the man striding toward Rin, the boy who exited quickly dashed in front of him and grabbed Rin's wrist. He ran across the street into an alley, pulling her behind him. They heard gunshots fire and dogs barking.
"Len… Was that… M- Meito?" Rin stuttered, trying to catch her breath.
"Yeah. We have to get Gumi and go." Len grabbed Rin's hand and lead her down the alley until the shadows completely hid them. They heard commands being screamed as Meito called for backup.
Rin let her eyes adjust to the darkness before turning to Len. "Brother, boost me." Rin put her left foot on the wire fence beside her. She reached and grabbed onto the fence. Len laced his fingers together and hoisted Rin up so she could grab the top. She used the wall to her right to scramble up where she she sat down painfully on the metal. She tossed her bag onto the ground and jumped off the fence. She rolled as she landed, her bag helping to catch her fall. She turned back to the fence to see her brother already starting to climb up himself.
Len grunted as he reached the top. "Move," he told her before jumping down. Rin had stepped out of his way so he wouldn't hit her, but his bag had smacked her head. She rubbed the small bump as footsteps echoed in the alley walls.
"There!" somebody shouted and dogs barked as a group of people ran toward them.
The siblings grabbed their bags and ran out of the alley to a parking lot of an old dollar store. The windows had been smashed and graffiti painted the side. They ran to the far side of the building and hopped through one of the broken windows. They jumped over the only checkout counter that was near them.
Len skidded to a stop in a room labeled Authorized Personnel Only. A girl with bright green hair sat on a in the corner of the room with her legs kicked onto the table. In her hands she held a doll with a smashed face and tattered hair. She glanced up when she heard them run in, her dull eyes landing on a spot near Len's shoulder.
Rin grabbed Len's sleeve as she entered the room. "Gumi… They found us… Th- the FOGC… are outside. We- we gotta go," Rin gasped as she explained, small tears running down her flushed cheeks.
Gumi jumped up, throwing the already broken doll at the wall with peeling and chipped paint. "Perfect! The Federation already found us? Fabulous!" She let out a musical laugh.
"Get your shit, Gumi. We don't have time for you to cry about it. Speaking of which, Rin blow your nose and dry your eyes. You can have your panic attack later, please," Len said as he rushed to gather the cans of food and water scattered around the room.
A crash made Rin jump and she watched through a crack in the door as people flooded into the store through windows. They knocked down empty shelves, searching for the trio. Someone barked more commands and search dogs were led into the open area.
Gumi swiftly grabbed her bag and dashed out of the room, the rusted crowbar attached to her waist banging against her thigh. She ran out of the back room and crouched behind the counter. Gumi grabbed a few of the stolen smoke bombs stashed in her brown bag. Tossing one over the counter, smoke began to fill the room. She tossed a few more for good measure as the twins exited the back room with their bags.
The group, with Rin and Len in the lead, ran to the back door of the dollar store and ran out the fire exit. They made a left turn and ran down an alley until they reached large dumpsters. Rin hopped onto them, followed by Gumi then Len. Len, being the strongest, boosted Rin and Gumi onto an overhanging ledge. He pushed the dumpster until he could fit behind it and kicked it down, spilling garbage everywhere. Rin dropped a ladder down to him and he climbed up as the fire exit door swung open. He yanked the ladder up and followed the two girls to the left side of the building.
The ledge was small and they had to press their backs against the wall and step sideways. They held their bags on their chests as they shuffled slowly across the ledge. On few occasions they slipped and almost fell, but managed to reach the end. The neighboring building was a lot closer to this one than the store had been and only wide enough to fit someone slightly bigger than an average sized middle schooler.
Rin handed Gumi her bag and stepped into the spacing. She placed her feet on the building next to them and pushed herself up, the brick wall scraping her back. Rin eventually made it up to the top where she sat down and dangled her legs off of the ledge. Her calves were burning and she was panting.
Without wasting another second, she reached down and took her bag from Gumi. She put it beside her and leaned over the side. She held out her hand for Gumi who was still standing next to the narrow alley. Gumi grabbed her hand and Rin helped her climb up to the roof. Together they pulled Len up and placed their bags on their backs again.
Their shirts were torn and dirty and they were in a desperate need of a shower. They began to run across the concrete roof. They could faintly see somebody sitting at the opposite end. They silently agreed to see who it was.
The person was leaning against a wall. They were hugging their knees and had their head tucked against their chest. They wore a white shirt and pants, the kind a hospital patient would have.
The trio shared glances before Len spoke up. "Uh, excuse us?" he said, clearing his throat.
The person's head shot up, their red eyes wide and terrified. Their hair bobbed above their shoulders and was a hot pink color. It was tied into two pony tails and curled so that it resembled drills. Her bangs stuck onto her face, coated in a layer of oil, dirt, and sweat. "I- no please," she began speak, her words frantic and slurred. "Please don' take me back. Please, I beg, don't turn me in," She crawled back into the wall and he eyes filled with tears.
"Hey, hey, calm down. We aren't gonna hurt ya," Gumi said as she held out a hand to the girl.
She recoiled when she saw Gumi's hand. "Please, I- I don't wanna go back. They hurt. It hurts. It hurts a lot!" She began sobbing loudly, large tears running down her greasy cheeks.
Rin sat down in front of her. "Hey," she whispered. "We aren't going to turn you in. I promise." The girl paused her crying momentarily so Rin continued. "I'm Rin. The other girl is Gumi, and the boy there is Len. We are safe. Okay?" Rin was speaking slowly and softly, coaxing the girl into calming down.
"Boy…" She looked between Gumi and Len, almost if she was trying to figure out which one was which.
"That would be me. That one's Gumi," Len said, nodding his head at his friend.
"Yo." Gumi gave her a small wave, slightly facing the wrong way. Len shifted her so she was facing her as the girl looked back at Rin.
She winced slightly. "Rin, Len, and Gumi." She hiccuped quietly as Rin wiped the tears off of her cheeks. "And me…" she trailed off, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"What's your name, then?" Rin asked her. She pulled her hand away from the girl's face and placed it back in her lap.
"Me? I- me name…" The girl stared blankly at the hand Rin had used to dry her eyes.
Gumi coughed. "My name," she muttered, correcting the small child's grammar error.
"Going to," Len said, glaring at Gumi.
The two argued as Rin grabbed the girl's hand gently. "Do you know your name?"
She nodded slowly, still looking at Rin's hand, now covering her own. "Me- my name… I'm Teto… I- I think."
Gumi, still in her fight with Len, gasped suddenly. "Did she just say her name is Teto?"
"Yeah. Why? Is that a problem, Greenie?" Len retorted, crossing his arms angrily.
Gumi tried to glare at Len, but ended up looking at his shoulder. "Because, genius, Teto is the name of a captive of the Federation Of Gifted Children," she spat angrily.
"So? We are too," Len replied. "Or have you forgotten, little miss disabled?"
"Well, this particular captive supposedly had wings."
Rin gasped quietly as Teto lowered her head. "Do you mean," Rin said, turning to look at them. "that this girl is Teto Kasane?"
Gumi nodded. "I would think so."
"What's so bad about a last name?" Len asked, bewilderment coloring his voice.
Gumi sighed exasperatedly. "Teto Kasane has bat wings. She's a chimera."
