Chapter-1: Living_
5 Decades Ago
Rukia looked around in panic a she dodged around another one of the blow from the hollow. She was all alone with the huge monster towering over her. Not that she was week, but she really use some help right now.
She clearly remembered calling Ichigo as soon as the hollow had visualized on her redder. She knew that Ichigo, Orihime, Chad and Uryuu will be at the school when she called them. None them had picked up, instead they had send texts saying the other will be there. It was confusing to her of who will be there and her last hope was Ichigo himself.
No one showed up.
'Why do you look so lost, little girl?' the stingy hollow snickered at her and punched his big hand at her. Rukia was barely able to duck and fell face down on the muddy earth. She felt a hot liquid slid down her nose, she quickly rubbed it off and charged again calling for the second dance of her sward, Sode no Shirayuki.
'The girl got moves!' suddenly another hollow appeared behind her.
When did he come?!
Before she could do anything, she felt herself being thrown across the filled, she was crushed into a large tree; her whole body was in pain. She cursed the hollows who were toying with her shamelessly, then cursed Ichigo and the gang for not showing up, yet.
Oh well just because no one came to help her, doesn't mean she will back down. She had handled situations like this lot of time before she met them, so she can keep fighting. Who knows maybe she will win as well.
'May, Sode no Shirayuki!'
With this new found optimism, she charged again and froze the first hollow; however, the second hollow had disappeared. And again she felt him behind her, this time he stabbed something right bellow her heart, with a sharp nail.
Her whole body shock with acute pain and she fell down on the ground with a loud trump. Blood oozed out of her body, she could barely keep her eyes open and struggled to breath. The darkness was clouding her vision and just before closing her eyes she was a bright orange color looming over her eyes.
The first think Rukia noticed when she woke up was the high ceiling of the room. She was lying on a sleeping mat; she also felt that she was wearing her own clothes, neither the clothes given by Urahara nor the one given by her friends. She mused realizing; I'm back in Kuchiki Mansion.
Suddenly a gruff voice boomed outside the room, she got off the mat and went near the screen door, waiting for the speaker's voice again and this time she heard clearly every ward he said.
'This is disgraceful, Byakuya-Sama.' One of the Kuchiki elder said through his greeted teeth, 'We are soon to wed her, and she was running around and trying to get herself killed.'
Marriage! To who?! Rukia's eyes went wide with shock; do they know of my feelings for Ichigo? But they couldn't. She remembered never telling or making it obvious and she was good at it. And if anyone did figure out through – she knew nobody did – would have be really good with emotions something no Kuchiki were. But a heart of love never stops hopping, neither did she Rukia. She could not stop herself from wishing that the groom was Ichigo. However, Byakuya's reply crushed her hope.
'It was not her fault if the Substitute Soul Reaper did not show up at time.' Byakuya said calmly, 'as for the wedding, I have yet to inform her of it so do keep your voice down.'
'But it would have been an insult to the clan should she had died in the battle. You know how much sensitive the Tusshiki clan is of this things.' Ginrei Kuchiki's voice was equally calm as his grandson, 'We have promised her hand to them…Byakuya you are to inform as soon as you can.' And the conversation stopped.
Rukia stepped back from door, tears threatened to spill from her eyes but she controlled it.
The door opened and Byakuya entered the room and was greeted by her red eyes, 'Rukia, it's not polite to eavesdrop.'
Rukia in return mumbled an apology, even after all this time I still succumb to him, how much pathetic can I become?! She looked dawn.
'You're soon to be in laws does not approve for a noble lady fighting with swords beside a man. You are to quit Gotie 13.' And he left the room.
Rukia stood at the spot se was standing before, going over what her brother had said to her over and over again. She was to quit being a Soul Reaper - the only think she was good at – to get herself in to a arrange marriage with clan she knew nothing about, a clan where women were not allowed fight, yet she many noble women who were Soul Reapers.
And they didn't ask her if she wanted to be married.
Kuchiki household was preparing for the upcoming wedding. The date was set. The cloths and jewelries were made and brought. The mansion was being decorated by the giggling servants. Why wouldn't they be happy - finally a function was happening in Kuchiki clan after Byakuya and Hisana Kuchiki's marriage. And that was a century ago.
Even the clan members looked contains.
Except for two people, first the bride herself who had not recover from the injury due to the depression she was going through because of the arrange marriage. She was so depressed that she refused face the groom before the wedding ceremony. She all day stayed inside her room, even taking her meal in there. Not talking to her brother.
And second unhappy one was the bride's brother himself. Byakuya also kept himself locked inside his office. He spend most of his time in the 6th division, he never participated in any of the wedding related works.
That didn't mean he never knew what was going inside the house. He knew, Rukia's comrades and few of the captains went to visit her. They all were sorry that she was quitting but congratulated her of the marriage. Rukia accepted it with a fake gratitude ad smile. He knew, she blushed in an attempt to hide her tears when Matsamodo made a perverted joke. And he knew that his lieutenant, Renji Abari never once went see his childhood friend after the declaration of her wedding, he never looked at or talked to Byakuya only listened when he said something. He had every right to do so. Byakuya knew that his lieutenant was more of brother to Rukia then he was and if it was up to Renji, he would have stopped at nothing to prevent the marriage from happening.
Byakuya was not person with emotion, he might have been one once but that had died with Hisana, Rukia was only a promise to him. Still when the servants informed him of the visitors and Rukia's behavior to them, he could do nothing but pity his adopted sister. Nevertheless, if it was anyone else he might have been fooled by the fake façade. But he had noticed how the cold weather loomed around the mansion, even few of the servants were walking around wearing something extra to keep them worm; how all the lives and flowers had went dry and sometimes at night when he walked around the garden he had seen snow flacks and he shivered, the fearsome Byakuya Kuchiki was afraid whenever he saw the snow and he didn't know why. And it all started from the day he had told her about marriage.
At times though, Senbonzakura would troll around his mind saying, 'Maybe she is reaching her Bankai.' Bykuya would of course brush him of; there was no way she was reaching Bankai. His Zanpacto never acted like that when he reached his Bankai. Then Senbonzakura would say, 'remember her Zampacto is not like us.'
Rukia looked at the calendar, only one week left before the wedding. All the visitors had stopped coming and she was all alone. She was being prepared for marriage, she never left her room. Her trainers – who were supposed to teach how to be proper mistress of house – came to her room.
She missed her friends that were in Human World who had yet to show up.
Suddenly the door bust open, 'Oi Midget!' Ichigo stormed in with Uryuu, Chad and Orihime. A light of hope went on in Rukia's heart. He will fight to stop the marriage from happening. 'Why are you cupped inside this room? Shouldn't you looking through the preparation? After all it is you wedding.' He grinned ear to ear 'I'm so happy for you!'
The light went off.
He was happy for her? She was lost at what he said and with confuse she accepted the gangs greetings.
He wasn't upset about my arrange marriage.
He wasn't wanted me to participate in the wedding.
'Ichigo, where were you when I was fighting the hollows?' she asked calmly, her bangs covered her eyes.
The four of them looked guilty and sad, and then Orihime cleared her throat, 'Kuchiki-San, Shado-kun and Uryuu-Kun were busy and Ichigo-Kun and I were together…You know, we are dating.'
He didn't like me like I did.
'Why didn't you tell me about this before?' Rukia looked at the intertwined hand of Ichigo and Orihime. Tears again threatened to come out of her eyes. 'Were paling to tell after I was dead?'
'God! Rukia, I tried to but when you came back from Soul Society you looked beet and…tired. I thought I'll tell you later but never got the chance.' Ichigo rubbed scratched his neck, 'and the moment you called we were out on a date and we thought you could handle it…'
He chose Orihime over me.
'Get out!' the temperature doped in the room with her cold tune. Her "friends" looked at her, dumbfounded. Nobody made a move. 'I said get out, before I have the guards escort you out' she glared at them with her burning eyes.
They slowly left. Well, Ichigo did try to say something to her but was dragged out by Uryuu. But before they left they heard her say in a cold voice like Byakuya, 'if you have any shame whatsoever then show up at the wedding.'
When they left she curled herself into ball and finally let the tears came for the first time since she found out about the marriage.
What the fuck was wrong with her? Yea…I did ditch her, but I'd done it before she never complained. Then why was she bitching about it now? Ichigo frowned as he and the gang left the Kuchiki compound. He looked over all his friends; they all looked deep in thought.
'Why the long face?' a sudden voice made them stop, they looked up to see Renji leaning against a wall, looking at them lazily.
'We went to see Rukia-San.' Uryuu said before Ichigo, 'and she found out that we had ditched her at the fight and throw us out.'
'Did she now?' Renji looked amused. Then his eyes turned to Ichigo who was angrier at the fact that Rukia through them out then that she was going to marry a complete stranger. No wander she threw them out.
I wish Kurosaki realizes Rukia-San's feeling soon and do something about it before it's too late. Uryuu thought, sharing a knowing look with Renji which was noticed by both Ichigo and Chad.
'Whatever.' Ichigo mumbled and walked off with Orihime clinging to his arm.
The last night before the wedding, the last night she will be a Kuchiki, a young girl, a shikigami. From tomorrow she will be Lady Tusshiki not the Kuchiki Princess. Of course she won't have that. She may not be a Kuchiki from tomorrow, that didn't she has to marry him. She looked at the duffle back she had packed and quickly ran out of the room. She was surprised at lack of guards at the mansion. She never once stopped nor stood to catch her breath as she climbed the wall and left the Kuchiki household never once looking back.
That clan may have given her a name and roof but had taken the life out of her. She will not go back there again.
'Going somewhere?' she was shocked to see Renji standing in front of her. She was about say something but he hold up his hand to stop, 'don't say a ward. Here take this.' He handed her a little box which had a button on it, 'sneaked it out of Captain Mayuri's lab long time ago for fun. Never thought it come in handy…Rukia, I don't know where you're goanna go after this, but I think you should have it and press it when you need me I'll be there. Don't ask how this works though 'cause I don't know.' He hugged her as she sobbed and walked of, 'Good bye best friend!'
Rukia brushed her tears and ran again until she felt no ground under her. With horror she looked down only to find herself standing on nothis.
Under her legs were pitch black hole the side of the hole glowed in red.
She found herself falling and let out a piercing scream and pressed the button Renji had given her.
She was being pulled into the hole and she looked up to find help and was met with a pair of greenish golden eyes. Instead of asking for help, she asked, 'who are you?'
'Why your soon to be husband, love.' She heard a deep voice and everything became dark.
