Authors Note: A short drabble about Hidan and Kakuzu. I'm feeling all depressed because they're both dead. I hate Masashi Kishimoto for killing them off. Obviously, I do not own Naruto, or they would still be alive and kicking people's asses.
A tear slid down from his eye, and continued its descent down his cheek. He had always wished for nothing more than to be free, but his soul was trapped in his cursed immortal flesh. Hidan's spirit was like a caged bird, yearning for freedom, straining against the bars of its prison and dreaming of nothing more than to fly off into the heavens without a single backwards glance. It had been bearable, for a while. Kakuzu had been there. Hidan could feel the ache of loneliness in his heart ebb away, slightly. Kakuzu had seemed to be a constant in this world, someone who would always be there to talk with, even if they always did disagree on everything.
I won't always be there to sew you back together, Hidan.
Hidan didn't really take in Kakuzu's words at the time- he didn't want to believe them. Of course Kakuzu would always be there! He had five hearts, for Jashin's sake! Kakuzu had been one of those things Hidan took for granted, never doubting their presence but always appreciating it. Hidan took in another shuddering breath as a fresh wave of tears rolled down his face. He should have listened. Because now, the caged bird no longer strained, but lay broken and bleeding in its cage. It wished that it could fly free, but along with another bird- preferably one with glowing green eyes. And it still wouldn't look back; it would go as high as it could and relish the feeling of freedom. But, it was was far too late, and Hidan couldn't stop crying, crying and hurting. He looked down at the mess of limbs and stitches that was Kakuzu, and a small sob escaped his lips. The tears fell, and would continue falling for eternity. Not on the outside, but on the inside. The bird would continue breathing, but only just. Just enough to carry on, and keep dreaming for the day of salvation. The day where he would be with Kakuzu again.
